Default Z06 questions?

Thinking about a used Z06. Are any years better than others. I know the 01's only had 385 hp vs the 405 of the others. Anything else?

A few things I can think of off hand. I own and '01 and these are the differences and "problems" that are possible. (None of which I have experienced)

1) Infamous re-ring issue for cars that burned excessive oil (more than 1qt/1000 miles)

2) The wiring harness to the injectors is mighty tight and has caused shorts for some people where the wire rubs through over time.

3) Column lock engaging, sometimes while driving, and keeping the wheel locked.

4) Valve train is slightly different.

5) Cam is slightly less aggressive.

If I think of more I'll let you know, but these are issues that I am familiar with on an '01.

The column lock problem was in every year of the C5's up to 04 I believe... Ive read about even 03's only having 350 miles on them and the column locking.
But it's nothing a $25 bypass can't fix

I haven't had any of the other problems with my 01

Pretty much all the same except the 01 with 20 less hp, thanks mainly to a smaller cam. They did have some other issues, but most you should find now would have had the dealer repair them already. The only major concern would be a 01 suffering from oil consumption that hasn't had a rering done yet. Other than that, anyone would do.

The 04 suspension had some shock valving changes making it the best handling Z06. That is the only difference I know of from 02-04.

Just get the newest and lowest mileage you can afford.

04s have better shocks.

If you want an electron blue as I did youll have to stick with 02-03
If you want that rare white youll have to get an 01.

If your staying relatively stock? Get a 2002 Z06. Lowest price with the newest cam.

If your changing the cam? Then go for an 01. They can be had relatively inexpensively.

If your thinking of modding down the road? Better to go over to www.z06vette.com and buy one thats already been modded.

Mods add very little value to the resale price and for the most part Corvette owners take very good care of their cars..

I'd go for an 02 all said and done. Worth the few dollars extra and I have a 01 z06 so take my suggestion for what its worth.

02 had a better cam..lighter valves...better clutch..the hud...better exhaust manifolds without pup cats...

Its just a better car from the factory.

Hope this helps.

I decided to go with an '02 with very low miles when I was shopping because the 02-04 have very little difference and the some '01's had the ring problem. Alot of people have had no problems with their '01's but I don't have goodluck when it comes to those kind of thins so I went with the lowest mile '02 I could find in my $$$ range.
