Default Grand sport vette?

How would you compare the GS vette to the C5? What to they both on average dyno and run? I know the C5 is rated at alittle more power but I know a guy that might be selling a GS and I may be interested and Im looking for a basic comparison.

Thanks
Joe

No way, unless you want the "prestige" of owning a rare car.

It's just an LT4 Vette (like every other 6-speed '96 model) with a low-production number, red interior, and a pretty paintjob. Honestly, the LT1 engines don't hold a candle to the technology of the LS1s and I've owned both. (1994 Z28 w/396 stroker)

What he said pretty much.

I will tell you that in alot of cases, the LT4 cis way underated. As a matter of fact, the 96 LT4 cars, were rated at 330 hp, but were actually make much more. But they underated them because of the next NEW Corvette and powerplant were coming out.

We would beat the **** outta LS1 cars all of time with a LT4, with air lid, airfoil, hypertech, and removed rear mufflers, ZR1's (11inch) with 315's. Car was almost unbeatable on the street in its day. Beating vipers was cake to, in that day.

Great cars. When you think of Lt4 compaired to the LT1, think LS6 compared to the LS1.

I disagree. I have owned several vettes including two C4's. The GS is a better performer than the base C5. In reality, it was under rated by GM so they new C5 would not have less HP. It was closer to the ZR1 in performance than anyone wanted to admit. The GS is a collector car. Go check out Rogers Corvettes and see what the price of a GS is vs a C5. Also look at the Grand Sport Registry. FYI, if it has the red interior jump on it. Most of them had black interior. If it is a conv then its even more rare.

Good info thanks, it has red int. I torn between what I want tho so my choice right now is the GS or an EB Z06 and Im even thinking about a CTSV, I was just wondering about the GS compared to the C5.... That might all change next week to tho.

Z06 compared to an LT4 Vette? There's no comparison, bro. Unless, like I said before, you want to own a rarer car.

I almost bought a GS or LT4 car,...plams were top mod it right away. I always wanted a C5 as well,....long story short, I went with C5, since it IS a better car, all the way around.

C4, is an underated, awesome car, that doesn't get the credit that is due. I think the reason behind that, is a couple of things.

1.Seems like ALOT of older, non raceing gentlemen own them Nothing wrong with that, but, it's like a waisted car.

2. the people that DO mod them,, do it by adding stupid ****. Like a greenwood spoiler, and a wood grain dash kit.

The car just never got the proper attention. LT4's are the ****, when it comes to C4's.

I will buy one one day, when the extra loot is there. Cars are very aerodynamic, and handle better in the rain then my C5

I’ve had both. The C5 is a way better car. The LT4 is a great motor. Stock to stock at the drag strip the LT4 and the C5 were nearly identical in performance with a very slight edge going to the C5. I ran 13.0x in both when stock. The LT4 went 109.xx and the C5 went 111.xx mph. In every other aspect the C5 dominates the LT4.

Mod for mod the LS1 will make a lot more power than the LT4. With a very mellow (you can barely hear the cam) H/C setup my C5 runs 124 mph in the ¼ . My buddy has an LT4 with long tubes and a Procharger and he only runs about 117 mph in the ¼ .

Anyway, don’t get me wrong the GS is a great car. It’s just not as good as the C5.

Not all GS's had red interior. The red interior cars (bleeders) are more rare.

The GS coupes were also the only 96 C4s to receive factory f9.5/r11" wheels with the stick on flares on the rear. The verts received the regular size tires. Spring rates and sway bars changed a little from the standard C4s but there were still 3 suspension options, FE1 (base), F45 (selective ride) and Z51 (stiffer).

All 96 C4s with a six speed received the LT4.
