Output shaft,...I think is more money. I think. I do know, that te output shaft alone, isn't all thats needed to keep these things together. I have never blown a rearend in my C5(i've got the DTE strut brace) but, I have pushed my cousins Z06 off of the line, more then 5 times from breaking the rearend. The fully built, STAGE III DTE diff, is 3 thousand bucks...and change. The stage 2 is less then 2 grand. My cousin has broken the stage 2 units, a couple of times. So now, he's waiting on the upgraded unit(stage III) which should be here this week.

All I have in my rear is the heavy duty long side output shaft and 4.10 gears. The short side is still stock. I haven’t had a problem in over 100 ¼ mile passes. I’ve got 444 RWHP. I run on street tires so I don’t have a lot of traction, but I’m sure that if I was on an F-body 10 bolt it would last about 10 passes before it blew.
I don’t know of a lot of guys in the 8’s. Major Spray was getting close, but I don’t know if he made it or not. He was on the “stock” rear. I’ve seen the Cartek TT Z06 go well into the 8’s. I believe he has a 12 bolt but is not “back halved”. I’m sure there are others. Mid to low 9’s seems to be the limit for getting any kind of reliability out of the “stock” rear.
At any rate I think we can all agree that the C5 rear is much stronger than the F-body 10 bolt.

I think ET streets are easier on the drivetrain than radials. Many folks have switched over, and have not had any more breakage issues.

11.23-2 has a nice view from behind of us running at NPR. You can see the car sit down hard on launch. All the run are made dumping the clutch at 6600 or more.

Not sure what rears they have....but someone asked about 'em. I'm pretty sure the 8.9x was on an IRS, and was a record I think.
The rear was originally built here in Houston by Texas Auto. Texas Auto does all the C5 rears in this part of the country for ALL the shops. If you call Pyle Bros., or any of the local shops thats where they send you. In addition, most of the tuner shops in Houston and Dallas use them.
The rear in those pics was a stock rear with a generic hardened shaft, and a 4.10 gear. Made a bunch of passes like that, and the Exedy clutch broke the short shaft at NPR last year.
It now has a DTE hardened shaft, a DTE short shaft, a DTE spring/clutch pack, DTE brace, and the same 4.10 gears.

Question,...how do you like your 4.10's?... On the highway that is?
ANd at what speeds are capable with this setup, top end wise? Does it rob it up top?
You can run 177 @ 7000 in 5th and 263 in 6th @ 7000.
200 mph in 6th comes in at just over 5300.
Tommy's car will turn 7400, so it'd go 188 in 5th with a 4.10.
With 4.10s it cruises on the freeway at 80 around 2200 so, it isn't bad. I've only driven the car on a long trip (Dallas to Houston) once. Trip from Lou's took 6hrs, and it wasn't bad at all.

Alright...doesn't sound too bad. I've never had the chance to go more then upper 180'smph with my gears(stock 3.42's) and I was more the curious how it would effect topend, or not.
