Default LG LT Install

I'm looking at installing the LG LT's I purchased over this weekend, however I have a slight problem, the hoist that is available to me is probably only going to be available for 5-6 hours. I used to be a licensed tech so I know I can move quickly but I'll be doing this with hand tools (no pneumatics at all). I've seen that a couple of you guys have done this on jackstands so I have a few questions:
1. how high up did you have to get the car?
2. did you install/ remove things through the top or the bottom?
3. how long does it take to do the work on the ground as opposed to doing it on a hoist?
4. Did you have to drop move the engine or cradle at all?

Thanks for all your help up till this point guys.

You should be able to it in 5 hours easy. Just don't reinstall the x-pipe and cat back if you run short on time. #2 both. #4 no. If you car is going to be at the shop or wherever the lift is rip off your coil packs, plugs, pass side valve cover, header bolts, berfore you start the 5-6 window of work. Then just push the car over to the lift. Never seen it done on the ground but I garantee you that it's possible. Someone will chime in who has done it on their back

I installed mine on the ground (ramps)... On and off several times...

-Remove both valve covers (and all other supporting gear)
-Remove plugs from both sides
-Remove altenator
-Remove oil filter
-Remove driver side engine mount nut, 18mm? (located under the cross-member)
-You might also have to remove the braided fuel line going into the rails (I did not)

*Passenger side drops right-in from top with a little wiggle...
*Driver side; push up on the driver-side engine mount stud with a bottle-jack, NOT MUCH, header should drop right in from top...

good luck..

Installed mine on the ground in the driveway. The hardest thing is getting to the rear manifold bolts on the drivers side. I pretty much followed the steps on ls1howto.com they were very helpful. I put the drivers side in from the bottom and passengers side from the top. It was not that bad and actually goes easy once you get the stock stuff off.

No on the need for a lift, especially in the winter... cold concrete pulls the heat right out of you... I am installing another cam this weekend and of course it is suppose to be in the 30s the whole weekend..

I did mine on jackstands in 6 hours. I could have used a lift but it was easier to work at the house. Like someone already said, the hard part is getting the stock parts out.

I didn't do the original install on my Z06 but took them off and put them back on three different times.

It was a cake job, with the car on my 9,000 lb lift I could have everything off in 1- 1 1/5 hrs at the most. From the headers back to the stock exhaust.

I didn't remove the alternator, plugs or anything else described above.

I was the easiest header install I've ever done on a car by far.

There is no way in hell I would try it on jackstands. That would be a very frustrating task.I hate rolling around on the ground in the cold.

I did a Kooks install in 4 hours on a Kwick Lift. Only things I removed from the top were coil packs, wires and dip stick tube. Didn't remove the spark plugs or the valve covers. A lot easier than my 02 Camaro SS.

C6's have more room to work with. I thought we were dealing with a C5 here.

P.S. How much for the C6 kooks sscamaro02?

Cajun - do your or anyone else know if your writeup applies to the C6? If not, what are the differences (or are there too many to say)?

Same here, did my LG longtubes on jack stands, just enough room for me to crawl under the car.Took me about 5 1/2 hours just cruisin along.I got both sides in from the top,no need to mess with the motor mounts or steering shaft.I removed both side valve covers and coils, alternator, oil filter, ground straps for computer and motor. That was it.Driver side was tuuffer,i like to do the hard stuff first in any job if possible.
My o2 sensors gave me idling fits and codes.I had to spend another 200 bucks on A/C/ Delco o2's,AFS-97 was the part numbers, now i can tune it this weekend.

Well I did my install over the weekend. If anyone ever questions my commitment to my car I'll kill them. I worked on the floor of a parking garage, with 16" jack stands, a 16" jack and blocks of wood to put the car up. Lighting consisted of a POS flashlight that worked about 50% of the time, and some fluorescent lighting that was half the room away.

However first time I started it up........ that all went out the window. Man this thing sounds sick!!

Thanks for the offer for the help with the installs from all of you guys, as you can see I didn't read them until after I did the work. I'll make sure to give you guys a call next time.

Congrats! People always question my committment to my car. I have a tool just for that reason. One day I found a 3"-4" open end wrench that is about 2.5 feet in length and about 4" wide. I pull that out and they shut up.
