Leaking battery?

Leaking battery? read in the FAQ that some have a pretty weak battery, but was later switched with a gel battery, what year was the gel battery introduced? or better yet, what years should i be wary about? im looking at 99-01....so should i need be carefull?
The gel filled battery is an Optima Red top. The factory AC Delco batteries are known to leak and die pretty quick. If the battery leaks it can leak acid onto the wiring harness that is located under the battery tray and cause huge problems down the road.

The Delco AGM Gel Battery was first installed as standard equipment in the 01 model year. The 97's thru 00 had lead acid batteries as i quickly switched mine over to the new Delco AGM. So far i haven't had any problems using the Delco AGM.

Don't quote me on this but it is my understanding that GM never put a gel battery in the vette. Over on Z06vette.com the stock battery is notorious for leaking and failing meaning that the above statement that 01's and up had gels would be inaccurate. Mine never did leak but it did fail at the 3yr mark. No sign of anything wrong. Parked the car for 5 min at the store came out and she was dead.

My Delco AGM bit the dust yesterday after 3.5 years. 7 year battery it said on it.
I purchased an "Autocraft Titanium" battery at my local Advanced Auto Parts (luckily they were open on New Year's Day) so I could get work today. They said they could order an Optima but it would take a week to come in.
I know the non-AGM Delco batteries leaked - I've still got stains on my driveway where my 99 Ram Air Trans Am's battery let go. But I've never had an aftermarket battery start leaking acid. I'd rather just keep this one rather than try to hassle around trying to get them to take it back, but I'll go get an Optima if people have had problems with aftermarket batteries.
Has anyone had an aftermarket battery start leaking acid or is that a Delco-only problem?
