Work work work man. Been doing trade work for years, from working for general contractors, to hurriacne companies, to now, for the past few years, working as a technician at a GM dealership. My schooling, goes hand and hand with my job.

My car, I picked up for 23 and change,...and I pay about 454.00 per month. My insurance,..since I am now 27...is only 180 per month. I say ONLY because, when I was 19,...and I bought my brand new at the time Cobra, my insurance was more like 380 per month. Now that I am an old bastard,..price dropped.

I work extra hard, to afford my car,...and the occasional weekend vacation. I will tell you this, if I didn't know how to work on cars,...my corvette, would be BONE stock for a long time, cause I for damm sure wouldn't be able to afford labor rates to hop her up.

99 bucks an hour, is alot of coin.

And schooling, i'm about 99% GM trained,...just have to finish my last few college courses, that I'll be takeing at night,...which my dealership splits with me, or fully pays for it.

The problem with my work is its seasonal, I make about $25/hr in the summer, but have to live on that the rest of the year. A vette would be sweet, I'm wondering if I should sell the mowing business and get something less seasonal to be able to afford one. Suggestions?

Im a freshman in college- I detailed cars for 2 full summers, sold my first car.. LT1 Z28, and with much effort I was able to persuade my rich uncle to pay for the other half. Bought the car for $20,000 (99 c5 m6 with 39k from long island new york). enclosed trailered it to kansas city for $1 thousand, new starter $1 thousand, new windshield wiper motor $500, new tires $1,300, battery connection was faulty, all kinds of misc. work done after the original purchase. Performance parts are expensive for these cars so just dont buy anything until you feel like your getting a good deal- Z06 original take off wheels (perfect) $400, Complete basic NX nitrous kit- $400, 1,000 mile take off Z06 goodyear 265/295 tires $400, Borla Stinger exhaust (4 tips) only $400, Z06 intake manifold $150.

My older brother is in the exact same position as yourself actually. He has an 01 ls6 firebird and is starting to gather the funds for a c5. Let me tell you from a college kid whos first car was an fbody then second car a c5 you will not regret the extra effort put fourth it is an amazing change.

ps the vette gets the girls wet.

I sold my 95 Cobra for $9,500 and had some money in the bank saved up already... My Z06 was $29,700 after tax and I put down $12,500 on it. So I ended up getting a $17,xxx loan from the bank and my monthly payments are $413 for 4 years. I work full time so I am able to make double payments each month to pay it off sooner and will have the car paid off in 1 year and Ive only had it for 1 year and 5 months.

I couldn't be happier with it

First car was a Nissan 240sx. Turbocharged it, built it, put nitrous on it for **** and giggles. Sold it for 9grand (bought it for 5k, 3 years prior). Put 3 down on the Vette. Bringing the total cost to finance 17,500. I pay 302 a month, and insurance is 158 a month full coverage etc. I am a senior at U of O and work at the local hospital for 13ish an hour part time. It pays the bills and pays for the play toys for the Vette.

This is interesting talking to everyone my age that has Vette's.

The vette gets 'em wet is a saying we've been throwing around for years.

I think the first time I heard that was in the movie true lies.

Funny ****,...nice to see you boys are useing your cars properly.

Long live the vulcan.

Think about going bigger with the biz. Go to aparment complexes and office buildings and try to sell contracts. If you get 3-4 huge properties that you can maintain you can then use credit to buy some mowers, hire some mexicans, and spend your time in the shade running the biz.

You'll have to undercut the price of the current provider and offer a few attarctive extras. When the contract is up with the other guys you'll have your foot in the door. Do what you promise and when it's time you can slightly increase the rates based on the satifaction and service.

Then you can do other things in the off season. You'll have the business spirit fired up and you'll own more than one business before you know it.

If I were you I'd get some price/service ideas together and start calling to inquire about setting an appointment with the property managers. Busy season is starting now.... you can do this now instead of "waiting till next year."

Before you know it that C-6 will be in your driveway. -Joshua

If i didnt have to move out and pay for school my *** would be buyin a friend of the familys 04 comm ed z06. I fell in love w/that car at funfest 2 years ago and still have a hard on for it. i got to drive it and damn i was impressed w/ a big thunderracing cam forgot the specs w/full exhaust. That car left me in my 98 every time we tried. I miss my 98 but i dont miss the 420/month payments. Left me no money for mods and to spend the on gf. Maybe in another year or two ill buy another mppm 98 and go to town on it. but for now the plan is a f-body or 98 cobra. oh and im a kitchen designer for home depot hahah

i almost bought a vette instead of my camaro, but unless you have a big stash, you'll be looking at a 9-6 year old car, and of course unless you luck out you'll get a car that will require the attention--AND FUNDS--of a car that age, not to mention you'll have to pay the corvette tax on any parts you buy. id just stick to the fbody untill you get out of college. cudos to those who can afford a vette in college, i see a few around campus at ucf, and one kid has a 550rwhp stroked vette-but then again he didnt pay a cent for it either way good luck with what you want to do, but you'll be a slave to your car payment, like i am now

I wish i had a vette but for me my Camaro seems just a little more practicle. More room inside to carry stuff around cuz it is my daily driver. And being 18 i can still go out and drive around friends if needed. I see some of you guys have very similar payments to my Z. I pay $373 a month on my 02 Z. I bought it 4 months ago with only 2800 miles on it for $20,500 and i put $2k down on it. Luckily i dont have to pay my own insurance though. I'm so grateful for that. I buy the car the parents get the insurance. Pretty good deal i think.
