Default 07 Z06

Just got back from a local dealership. Spoke with the sales manager about a Z06 that I'd been drooling over that was being loaded onto a vehicle transport. Anyway, he told me that if it were him, he'd be waiting until the 07's come out later in the year...why I asked. He said they're going to increase the HP to 550 DDAAAYYYUUUMMM

Wish I could afford one

I've also heard the price is going up $5,000. Not sure if it's a rumor or not. If power is really going up, this is 2001 all over again, those 06 guys are going to be pi**ed off!

Most dealers are clueless.

No power bump for 2007 Z06. No competitive market rationale.

505 hp is enough of a handful. Those wanting more go aftermarket anyway.

Chevy instead will do small tweaks for 2007-2008, as it did for the C5Z in 2003, 2004.

Just quoting the sales manager. He said it's coming next year (I was assuming 07?) The others (Viper and GT) will be wanting to "out do" the Z06, so I'd think that there is definitely a competitive market rationale. I agree, the 505 is def a handful! But until Uncle Sam puts on a HP limit, they're going to keep trying to outperform each other.

Z06 is king of the road right now. But it is yet to be made bulletproof. It already has borderline clutch issues and a tendancy to break the right axle CJ joint housing. The latter issue may require some suspension redesign.

Adding more horsepower will aggravate those issues.

There are persistent rumors of a super Vette at the $100K price point. That will likely be the focus for more power rather than the Z06.

Opinions vary.

Kind of makes you wonder when power is going to max for the mass productions, huh? If they keep up with the HP war, who knows where it'll end.

The dealer that sponsors our Corvette club has had two C6Z06 returned by buyers who quickly discovered then car is just too much for them to handle.

One guy nearly lost it hammering a shift at 140. Got it stopped; pulled it off the road and called the dealer to flatbed it in and buy it back. Too much power for him.

The car does not need more horsepower. Few folks can handle 500 horsepower on the street. This is not a car for those lacking experience and self-restraint. A teenager driving this car is a prescription for impending disaster.

maybe there not going after the viper. maybe there looking for bigger game such as the Ford GT. or the super cars of ferrari and lambo, and pourche. i could care less if they make a vette for like $100.000. im not going to be able to aford a reg. C6 anyways. i just want chevy to have bragging rights again.

Well most Dealer don't know whats going on..... They may increase power but not in 07.... the car already makes more power than the stated 505hp SAE.... I've seen a few Dyno 440-450Rwhp- that's 517-530 hp at the crank.... The 505 SAE is with the power steering and a/c on...When you dyno a car or are racing a car, you normally turn of the air. this will give you 5-6 hp...

when the LS1 Edit/tunning is cracked people will get 20rwhp out of it.. the car is tuned very conservatively and runs rich up top....

Holy crap Ranger, you have some good times in that 06 Z!

Maybe you should do some of the magazine testing. They are half a second behind!

The advantage an owner has over the mags is seat-time to get dialed-in.

By Fall the bottom should be found for the C6Z06. I estimate 11.20 on stock tires and 10.9x on DRs.

That's why adding another 50 HP is kinda unnecessary...and pretty risky for most drivers.

Damn, thats insane!

Hopefully they do make some tweaks/changes to the 07... The 06 isnt perfect. Just to say they're adding more power, doesnt mean they arent going to change the other issues... Yes GM ***** up alllllllllll the time, but hopefully they keep this car on the positive track!

rumor control has it that the general has a new engine slated for production in '10-'11, to be tagged LS9. 6.2L @ 600hp.

mind you, this is only a rumor. but these guys usually get it right.

Quote:
If that’s not powerful enough, wait for the next-generation CTS Super V, which is rumored to be equipped with the LS9 engine—a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 600 hp. But you’ll be waiting at least until the 2010 or 2011 model year for that one.

Artical

okay, it's slated for the caddy. but I doubt that it will be an exclusive.

too much power ? lol... I never thought I'd hear that... I test drove a C6 Z and it was just pure sex!!..

I wouldn't say too much power [ esp. after driving a 750 rwhp Daily Driver Cobra! ] because once you get used to that 450-460 rwhp, you'll want more... it's never enough!!

I read that in another article as well. And you know that GM isn't going to have the caddy as their main muscle! Makes you wonder where the vette will be that year??? Can't wait to find out!!!
