Default Question for the Corvette people!!

I am wanting to get a Corvette and am very new to them. I don't even know anyone that has one or has ever owned one. The car that I am looking at is a 1997 with 70K miles,6-speed and is very clean. Is there anything that I should look for on the car since this was the first year of the C5 or should I look for a newer model? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Yeah I thought there probally were some issues with the first year. I just found this Vette real cheap and thought that it might be a good one to start modding and beat the snot out of it.

There is a thread (sticky) I believe on this corvette performance forum that has a list of the problems associated with the years. I agree with slow vette. I'd get the latest model possible. If you're planning on rebuilding the motor and modding heavily, then any model will work. Good luck with your purchase! You'll love the performance!

Yeah the car won't be a daily driver at all. The mods that I have planned for one are a set of 4.10 gears, spec 3 clutch,TSP Magic Stick cam, under drive pulley, long tubes,3" exhaust, vara ram,LS6 intake,150-200 shot of juice and all the free mods. That is why I feel that maybe a 97 might be a good one to mod like this.

Buy it. There's nothing wrong with '97s.

That's what I am thinking. I can handle all of the little things that might pop up with the 97 with being able to save that much money on one.

I think that I am going to look at it tomorrow and get the history on the car and see what happens from there.

Since you are going to mod heavily I would do the same thing, buy the cheapest C5 you can in good shape and you will have more mod money to put into it. BTW nice looking Pit, is he yours?

That is my whole idea behind the situation. Try and find a cheap one that is in good shape with decent miles and mod it hard. No that Pit is not mine. Mine is a 110 lb female. This is what she looks like. Thanks Bryan
