Hey Lou, while you are around... are the vents I see cut in the hoods and fenders for cooling or downforce? Maybe both? If it were just the hood it would be more obvious but I see tons of cars with them cut in the tops of the fenders. Could be to help cool tires but that may be a bit of a stretch. Long squirrly track racing is new to me but I'm liking it more and more.

the c5's build alot of pressure in the engine compartment at speed. take your car for a trip to 140 and you wil see the hood bulging if your not afraid to take your eyes off the road for a second. built up pressure under a car works like a hovercraft creating lift(float when at speed) i also hear they help cooling if the vents are behind the radiator by drawing hot air out instead of pushing it out under the car.

Yes, The hood louvers help downforce plus cooling. for example, the Vipers got the rules makers to allow the largest hood louvers in the history of the World Challenge series, because they said that they "needed them for cooling." BUT then they had to ask for a 13" wider wing for the rear, which I guess was to cool the back of the car

THe funny thing is that the guy making rules agreed to the bigger wing, then the Vipers lost about 3 mph on the straights. (do you think it could have been the bigger, more agressive wing?). So to make up for the lost speed, the rules makers gave the Vipers 45 more hp and 100 pounds less weight this year

So is it any wonder why the Vipers are all at the front with sandbags falling out of their cars this year. (510cu in, more power, and more downforce)

Off soap box!
