let it warm up slow, dont rev it too high, if its a manual take it up a nice canyon road or something w/ good elevation changes, use the gears to slow down, dont baby it but dont flog it iether, a few days of that and it should be ready for an oil change at least........ most will say its ready to be raced straight from the dealer but I like my toys to last so give um a proper break in....

This is not the wrong spot at all, it's the perfect spot actually!

I don't think you really need to do anything elaborate when breaking in a new factory built engine. It's already been run a few times before you got it, so by now the rings are already fully seated.

Just don't stay at any one rpm for too long (don't run your cruise control for a few hundred miles that is) and don't baby it too much either. Don't be afraid to go full throttle, a lot of people think it will hurt a new engine but it really won't. Just be sure the oil is above 180F before you beat on it, and you'll be fine.

What color did you get by the way? If you say Monterey Red I'll be super jealous, that's the color I'd love to have if I bought a new C6 right now. (although I keep changing my mind every week, I also love Velocity Yellow, Daytona Sunset Orange and LeMans Blue)

Yep, basically, just vary your speeds. Don't stay it the throttle hard for long.

Post some pics!!! I love the C6's. I didn't at first, but they've definitely grown on me.

Congrats on the new car BTW!

from what I've read and understand about breaking in C6's, and most other new cars these days breaking in the engine is not the biggest issue as far as the break in period goes. rather it's the trans and rear end that need a break in period. the above statements, ie, varying your speed and load on the drive train is key. and a reasonable warm up period before driving is a good idea.
enjoy your new ride. I know I love mine!

Hello, as I'm new to this forum. I'm currently in Sales at a Chevrolet of Bellevue in WA. The proper break-in from our mechanics opinions seems to be roughly 500-1000 miles of moderate-spirited driving. Like Patman said don't let her run at the same RPM for more than a hundred miles at a time. Try to keep her off the "fun-limiter" for any extended amounts of time. The occasional spike now and then should be just fine. For god sakes she's a corvette, she needs to be loved every once in a while.
