Hey guys,

I know this will probably be considered a newbie question, but what are the pro's and con's of owning a corvette?

What do you personally like?

What do you personally dislike?

I'm just trying to get a feel for the corvette mindset.

Thanks.

I haven't found anything I dislike about my corvette. I get tired of the way some people react to it. I get a lot of young drivers trying to race. it gets old. But I love the car man, no negatives from me!

cons:

the car comes with a lot of steretypes and i cant say i'm enjoying those

1. no, i dont want to race every civic with a fart can, especially in a rush hour traffic!

2. no, I am not having a midlife crisis, whatever it is

3. no, i am not a doctor or a lawyer. actually, i do not consider myself a rich person.

4. no, it does not burn more gas than your explorer

5. yes, i know i could have invested the money and bought a beater to drive around. when i am old, ugly and senile, i'd rather have the memories of a life well lived rather than a 7 digit bank account, thank you.

as far as pros go... go test drive one, it's all there

I must agree with all the above! I am 29 and just recently sold my 650rwhp 03 Cobra and bought an 02 Z06 (my first Vette) and am loving life! No regrets here. I was acrually sitting in stop and go traffic yesterday on a 2 lane road and I swear 9 out of 10 cars that passed going the other way would just stare at my car. What a nice feeling!

Some very good posts above. There are not many negatives when it comes to owning a Vette. Some people do stereo type us but I could care less. When someone says its an "old persons car", I simply say the "Civic generation" would love one but cant afford one..

At Englishtown last year, I was lined up against Supras on 2 of my 4 runs.....

Trust me, they wish they had a Vette too..

Things I don't like (besides the good list above)...

Paying the corvette tax for everything I want or need.

Never having enough money for all the mods I want.

Not having enough skill on the track to really push the car.

Not being able to drive the car on more long drives.

Being able to find a cop at the worst times.

the only thing i guess you would consider a con for me is unless you get a good deal on a corvette or you just really really want one...its not too much different than a camaro or trans am. Yes its a tad bit quicker (z06 anyway), and it handles better and looks different. As far as the fun factor, its all the same to me. Plus, I dont feel as bad modding the crap out of a camaro as i do about a corvette. Things are a little more expensive for a corvette!!

the one thing i dont like is being freaked out driving this car everyday and parking it a work and school, also the fact that people who look at me drive this car think its daddys car when if they only knew just because im only 19 gonna be 20 next month and make enough to buy this car. ehhh just gets old and yes i do race every honda w/a fart can and every other vette owner.

Ok, since everyone else has avoided the negatives...that's where I'll start.

Too many "common" problems. You would think GM didn't test the car or listen when problems started pouring in. And aftermarket parts are a bit on the high side. I'm a bit ill that they took the poor man's vette (FRC) and turned it into their performance car without adding back a few of the coupe's luxury features. Weight savings? maybe...I think it was a profit issue.

Issues I've had that I've found to be "common" on the vette forums:
1) fuel gauge drops to empty out of the blue.
2) driver's door will not unlock with remote or by door switch
3) rear diff seal leaks (some report with as little as 3K on the car)
4) clutch sticks to the floor (11+pages about this in the vette forums)
5) shift forks on the Z06 were aluminum in '01-'02...steel in '03-04 because of bending/breaking issues (again, not tested before coming to market?)
see forums for other issues.

Other issues to consider if adding power down the road
1) A4's suck when you put power to them (especially 3rd/4th, expect a rebuild)
2) Engine is only good to 550rwhp or so before problems pop up
3) Clutch will not hold power (expect to buy a new one)
4) When changing the clutch, better change the output shaft, it'll break as well

Now for the good:
I'm on my 4th vette and would like to be in a new Z06 within a year and a half. They are still the best performance car for the money, imo. Class, style, power, handling, looks, etc... the list goes on. Unless Supra or Skyline comes into our market with a vengence, I'll stick to the Vettes. There's nothing like it for the money.

yep i agree with this statement ^^^^^^^^.

i agree with all of the bugs also, but many of the same issues are in the fbody's too.

my biggest issue is the "vette tax". parts and accessories are over priced. but people still pay so what are u gonna do..????

another issue that i honestly feel is a rip is the option for using a front skinnie.
let me restate, our only option without some serious work is the ccw. love the wheels, just cant afford or justify the $ for them. u might get lucky and find a used set (all 4) for $1700-2000. way over priced for something that u would normally use once in awhile. but again, people pay it...

for me its actually the best car i've ever had. so far anyway.

I've also got a really fast Z28, and there is no doubt which car I drive... The weight and refinement of the Z06 is where it shines. It leaps when you get on it. It stops and handles better than anything I've ever driven. Yes, it's hard to get in and out of, but why would you ever want to get out..?
