Default Lowering an 02 Z06?

I measured the front and rear wheel gaps, from the top of the tires to the fenders. The front and rear gaps are both 2.75 inches. How much have folks lowered their cars, and did you have to do a front alignment afterwards?

I'm just going to start searching for new ProStockJohn posts. I've had my 02 Z06 exactly a week today. I was thinking about the whole lowering thing and then log on to see you've posted the question.

Enjoyed reading through your 2 week review too.

I lowered mine the with the factory screws in the front(about 3/4 inch) and the back about 1 inch with longer bolts. You should realign both front and back as camber and toe will be changed. I would not want mine any lower. I have poly bushings all the way around and the T-1 sway bars. It is unbelievable how much better the track handling is.

Mine is dropped about 2 inchs. ITS low and can be a pain in the ***, thats why it is not my daily driver. But it looks and handles great. And you'll definitely need an alignment.

Any pics of dropped Z06s on stock rims?

crewchef LOL. I guess we all just go through the same thought processes.

Can you tell what I'm thinking now? (airbox + thermostat + tune = ????)

Here's a couple of pics .

I lowered it as far as it would go in the front without cutting the bushings, to get the back where it is I went as far as it would go and I cut 2/3 off the top bushings.

I have 18's on the front.

If you road race your car, lowering may help performance.

If you plan to take it the drag, forget about lowering. It will hurt not help.

If you do the deed, alignment MUST be done and by very competent shop. Many, many tire-life issues have started with (1) lowering and then (2) botched alignment.

Lowering, though, is great for those who enjoy the challenge of avoiding scrapping over every speed bump and driveway ramp.

Ranger...third Z06...none of them lowered....

John, your lagging behind, did the ziptie mod (for now) w/ K&N and haven't tuned it yet but downloaded the stock tune and licensed it. I've done some logging too and just need a couple of good WOT passes before I start tweaking.

I'm still debating the thermostat, never have done it on son's 88 GTA w/ the LS1 yet even though I turned the fans down some. It stays right around 198 as is.

Tiago, what's your wheel gap now? Did you align it?

I for sure will program the fans to come on sooner, t-stat itself is debatable.

I AGREE, JOHN, the best route is to lower the Z on the lowest setting allowed on the factory bolts and this brings it down perfectly without having to cut bushings, etc, and it looks and handles 100% better. Best to ge a wheel alignment after its lowered. You can see pics of my mine lowered on factory bolts in the vette forum where pics of my 02 Z appear on many of my threads!
