Yep, the T56 in a C5 is transaxle mounted, so it uses a remote linkage to shift the transmission.

i just figure it can't shift as crisp as an f-body. So is an aftermarket shifter worth it?

LOL, C5 w/ a shifter will shift waaaay crisper than an f-body, I've had both... and no tourqe moving the shifter like the f-body also, C5 is mounted solid, runs off of large bar linkage and you cant tell the tranny is in the rear..... how'z about more vette owners comment on how a vette shifts instead of f-body owners, you guys need to go test drive one, you'll be addicted...

your f-body shifter still goes into linkage wich you should know, did you drive a C5 yet?, your asking questions and making asumptions about something you have no experience with obviously... I've been working on and racing f-body's and vettes, ask me how a toyota works, I wont say a thing.... dont bother asking questions if you dont like the answer...

I'm not arguing with anybody goof. All I'm saying is the shifter is dirrectly mounted to the tranny and ona c% it isn't. I have had 7 F-bodys and driven a few C5s. I just trying to get an average opinion. Why does everbody on the internet get so damn defensive! Have you owned any F-bodys? There is no linkage on LS1 cars.

I have owned both and they shift "about" the same. I had a Hurst billet plus in my firebird and its throws were not that short but very precise. My 99 FRC has a b&m in it and it is both very short and very precise. I can do full throttle tapp the clutch upshifts with now worries. I personally cant tell it isnt mounted direct.

because there's sooooooooo many idiots posting stupid questions on ls1tech latley, if its something that dosent even effect them they shouldnt ask dumb questions, such favorites as "what intake should my friend get?", "how do I tune my car?", "wich cam should I buy?", "how much hp can an ls1 make?", "how do I change the oil?", "my ses light is on, whats wrong with my car?" (and alot of them might not even own an ls1 "yet"), mite az well ask how to wipe your *** too.... and if its a vehicle specific, you have people that obviously dont know much about that vehicle chiming in and giving incorrect answers, its those stupid things that is pissing people off, and beleive me I'm not the only one.... sure I'm quick to type but I'm not takin my words back...

on to your next ?, yes I've owned lots of f-body's, one of them being the first ls1 f-body a 98z28 I got back in 98 new and worked that car for yeaaars.... btw, if you take your shifter out, it goes to a linkage/shift rod/mechanism, so yes there is a linkage weather its internal or external, just the vette is like using a long extension before it attatches to the bottom of the shifter where the plastic shim is...

and another thing........ does everybody say LS1 and think camaro or firebird?
saying there is no linkage on an ls1 car like you just did... hmmm should I call it something different than linkage, maybe extension rod? or shifting lever's?

I have a B&M sport shifter and Amsoil atf in the trans. It shifts way better than my son's 01 TA.

I think my old 98SS M6 shifted better. But the stock Z06 shifter is huge like the top of a oar handle.

I've run the stock shifter in my three Z06s and not seen a need to change for an aftermarket. FWIW, all three hold the record for their year group. That plus no tranny issue ever in any of the cars.

So the stock Z06 shifter definitely does not adversely affect performance or longevity.

I had a Ripper in my Z/28, and have one in my Z06. I think my Z/28 shifted better. Not alot, but better. The throw seems shorter in the Z06, but the Z/28 seems to require less effort to make the shift. Again, not a big difference. I have not had any problems getting through the gears with either car though.
