Default Ram Is Dropping The Ball

I recently bought a brand new RAM twin disk with the upgraded 900 friction materail . Well it is brocken in and still the petal is too low. Even if I adjust their master all the way up and bottom out it out pushing it down,it still doesnt release the clutch all the way. I called them about it and they said that I basically havent bleed the system properly, and that it must be my fault. I have installed about 20 clutches in f-bodys and vettes and use to work at a GM dealership .I know what Im doing and have never had a problem. No matter what I bleed it with "vacuum pump" ,it wont push far enough down to release the clutch fully. If you jack the car up it will move the tires with the clutch down. I just needed to vent my frusration on this new clutch and let it be known that there is a problem. I will be attempting to put a shim in there soon to maybe fix this problem. If not Ill switch to a th400 convertion, and no it wont be YANK. I use to be able to do full throttle upshifts with the old clutch .Now I must wait about a second between shifts or I cant shift it. I had a guy at the track that said "another corvette driver that cant shift ". That is what broke the camels back with this setup. Thanks for listening to my rant.

That sucks. Did you install a new slave? A faulty slave would cause similar problems. Pull the inspection cover and check to insure proper throw from teh slave and check to be sure the clutch is engaging or not engaging. Maybe a shim behind the slave will fix it. Bleeding these clutches is a pain.

Yes its a new slave. I beleive its some problem other than bleeding it.I had the stock master and slave when I first installed the clutch, it was when I put my new engine in. It was never taken apart to get air in the system. It had the same problem before and after I did changed to a RAM adjustable master and the new slave. It was like I didnt change anything.I has the exact same problem as before, thats what leads me to believe its now air in the system.

A buddy of mine and I both have (single disc) RAM HD setups and had to shim the slave. It's the one that bolts behind the slave. This was required and recommended. Wouldnt fully disengage without the shim. This is with all brand new stuff.. Ram billet flywheel, clutch, slave... etc...

works great though.. best clutch I have ever had.

The problem with the RAM Masters is that while they are adjustable, they do not pump any extra fluid. To fix this, you can take the master cylinder apart and grind or cut the travel limiter in half and you will have about 1/2" more travel. The travel limiter is at the bottom of the master and is a metal tapered cone, it also is the centering device for the integral spring. Then you can then adjust the master cylinder a little higher to utilize this extra travel.

I'm pretty sure there is no room to install a shim on the twin disc setups.

I have the regular twin disk Ram in my Z06. It was installed about two weeks ago by Allan at Futral motorsports and it is not doing that. My clutch is actually working in about the top inch or two of pressing in the pedal. I know I replaced all the hydralics in the system when I had it put in.

I guess we'll see if the shim works. I almost just want to do the th400 swap, cause I plan on making enough power to make even good shifting to slow. I dont think it would be very easy to shift and keep it straight with 1000 rwhp on a 6 speed. Ive already called Liberty and you "can not" proshift the corvette trans.I just need to get it going to get it tuned and mess around a little bit. I think that RAM should have said that it may be required. I have another friend who said that his RAM needed a shim also.

I put the shim in over the weekend and it worked. Thank you RAM for insisting that I didnt need one and that I didnt know how to bleed the system. So the 1600 that I spent on this clutch and master ,you couldnt even throw in a 15 dollar shim. I couldnt even imagine the cost a shop would charge the R&R the trans to fix your problem but thanks again for that. Also I noticed in your new ad for the twin disk setup that the new floater plate "virtually" eliminates rattle. Bullshit it rattles very bad when to clutch is pressed. The only thing I can say good about this clutch is the fact that it "might" hold the power Im going to put to it. So thanks again RAM for all the problems and many hours I had to put into fixing your engineering problem.
