corvette gear question
I have a 99 M6 corvette with a stock 10-bolt rear end.
My question is - can I just add a 4.10 gear to this stock 10 bolt without
doing anything else or will I have to change the entire rear end?
If not, what else would I need to do to add a 4.10 gear?
Any suggestions or commits would be greatly appreciated

1) Buy an already built set up from Dynotech Engineering, they sell the carrier with everyting insalled... for a simple bolt in process, I believe that they offer a warranty as well, which is nice, Do you have any other mods... if so You sill need at least the left side out put shaft hardened and over 500 hp get both, for saftey reasons... for a base model one with no out put shafts expect to pay around 1200, and then 399 each if you want the shafts one for each side. You can do the install your self but it may be better for you to have someone else do it for about 450.
2) Buy the gears directly from Motive or summit... whoever you want, but Motive gears are the only option for c5 corvettes, That will be a hair under 300 dollars and then the same applies for the output shafts, If you go this way however know that you will need to go to someone who has the special tools from gertrag... they are super expensive and not worth it to buy at all unless you own a perfomance shop... have a good shop with a lot of satisfied c5 customers do it probably after you buy the gears and lube and other things such as packings and such, installed 1000 out the door
Good luck and enjoy
Thanks for the info. I know nothing about rear ends or gears.
I surfed the web and called around and found the vette doctor in Florida who will install
a 3.90 gear......parts and labor for 1200.00.
He said the 3.90 will fit my driving needs.
I still have much to learn and that's why I love this sight.
Thanks again.
