should i get a c5
i just sold my 69 camaro ss. i am looking at two cars a toyota supra tt and a c5 corvette. i am looking to make a 9 sec car. i like the c5 better then the supra but the supra is so easy to mod. i dont want to use any (gas) on the c5 i want a forged motor with a single. what should i do. and witch car do you think would be cheaper to mod and get in the low 9's.
if i get a c5 what set up do i need to have to get in the 9's. thanks for your help. i had a 02 trans am i dont know why i sold it.

If you can get a great deal on a Supra... like $10-15K then it might be worthwhile, but people are still paying and wanting ridiculous amounts of $ for a 10-15yr old car that ain't nothing special.
I've tried to get one a couple times.
Getting into the 9's in any car is a feat in and unto itself. You are going to have to spend $ no matter what.
You can go many routes with the C5... 402-447 with a small or large shot or single or twin turbo on a built motor.
Get a C5 IMO.

If you're serios about having a 9 second car, that will pretty much erase the Supra's hp/$ advantage when modding. It's gonna cost you either way. Corvette is superior in every way, so why not go with it if you're going to spend the money?

A goal of a 9 second car is not enough info. Do you want a trailor queen? Do you want to run a 9 more than one time? Does the car need to retain all accessories? Does the car need to be able to be driven on the street? 9.99? 9.50? BIG difference there. EDIT: Low nines? Ok, square the $ you planned . Auto? Stick? All are important parts of this equation.
Both are IRS, and both are probably similar, bone stock. What is your budget, including the car? I can tell you from experience that without a clear idea of where/what exactly you want to do, you will spend quite a bit of money, fast, and be stuck with a slow race car that isn't reliable - no good for anyone. You want a single turbo car? I can tell you which one comes with a turbo from the factory .
Need more info to give good advice.
My opinon is that neither is a good pick for a drag car - financially speaking. A friend of mine has a mostly stock motor'd 5.0 notchback that weights 2800lbs, and cost him about $1200 (rollbar, ET streets, draglites, etc). That would be an excellent start for a 8sec car. But...its a Mustang .
To run low nines, I'd probably be prepared to spend around 100,000 with the price of the car.

Buy a vette... It would be better to find one with water damage or some sort of strippped down racer.... Thats just my opinion any way... like 10g's then too, I would do that with a stock displacement or a small stroker short block for about 2k to 3k, and a set of good flowing heads, fast intake, turbo kit and a built a4, or m6/12 with a 2 disc clutch and diff. Consistent 9 sec runs all day.
