Default Rental...yay or nay?

I'm looking at picking up a 1998 C5 Corvette. It's a 6speed,torch red w/ black interior. Mods are Corsa Exhaust and VR Vortex intake. I've yet to make the trek 70 miles to go see it, but they are asking 22k (53k on the odometer) for it. Looks awesome and exactly what I'm looking for, but the carfax report says that at one time in it's life it was a rental. Would it be my best interest to stay away from this C5?

Really, man, you can definitely beat that price! And I agree with assassin; anyone who rents a vette, isn't just renting for the economy. Know without a doubt that 90% of the people who rented that car "tried it out" every chance they could! That being said, I'd Run away too. Much better deals out there.

I'm having a SUPER tough time trying to find a good deal on Corvette. I'm trying to find something under 20k, but since I don't have cash to pay for the vette, I have to find one at a dealership so I can get financing. I've seen maybe 2 or 3 vettes in the last month for sale for under 20k up here in Washington and all of them have been private sellers. Absolutely frustrating!!

a dealers mission is to bend you over and make you take it deep!!.. 99.9999999999999% of them are the worst crooks you'll ever want to meet...

If you have State Farm Ins. you can check with them about a loan. I've done several through them not bad rates.

Rental I would stay away.

The car's price is inflated, but not unreasonable.

You guys need to show me where you can find a '98 6 speed with 53k miles for $15k...it's not happening.

A more fair price would be in the $18k range.

www.capitalone.com you can get financing there and you won't have to go through a dealer. Fill out their questionaire, they run your credit and they approve you for a certain amount. Then they send you a blank check that you can write out for up to whatever amount you were approved for. Their rates will probably be better than most dealers anyway and they are awesome to deal with.

I've also worked with Cap One Auto financing in the past. Very good experience with them.

I had the same problem when I was looking for my vette. So I decided to look outside of WA and found my 99 FRC in LA for $17.5. My wife and I flew down there and drove it back and stopped in SanFran for a few days for a mini vacation. It was pretty fun. When I got it up here, I went to a cruise in and a local vette club was there and they were all guessing I paid $28k for it!!!! Prices here are inflated, and it seems especially true on Corvettes.

Well I quickly got shot down for a 20k loan from capitol one (made a lot of credit mistakes in my younger days). So I decided to email an offer to the dealership w/ the rental Corvette. I emailed him w/ an offer of 18k. He actually emailed me a response of "I'm not even going to dignify that offer with a response. Thanks for the email". Not sure how this guy sells cars or even makes it through life, but on goes my search for my first C5

Well that's kind of an oxymoron...he told you he wasn't going to respond to your offer yet he emailed you back

Honestly though I am not surprised. If you were sitting at that dealership, credit approved, they would probably be more willing to talk. I would guess they get plenty of offers from people who aren't at all serious, so they just brush them off.
