Default I'm installing the STS kit...

...on a 2005 C6 Blue droptop automatic Corvette. I guess the customer bought the kit from STS,...and they sent them to us. STS has always been helpful to us when we had questions regarding installs in the past when doing kits on trucks and Hummers. The customer, that owns the vette is pretty cool as well. It's my first time installing a turbo kit on a corvette, which to me, is pretty cool. Builds some knowledge to when I plan to turbo my car in the future, stuff like intercooler loactions, routeing techniques...and the expereince,...is well, priceless. Again, for the same reasons, to build my own turbo car.

If I jump from piece to piece, or topic to topic regarding the kit, my bad,....I think I worked on 8 cars today, and still managed a solid 6 hours on the vette.....so the random thoughts are flowing in as I remember them,....not exactly in order.

Now, to the kit. It is, a hell of a kit. Alot of pipes my friends, alot. I took about two hours the first day, to do the electrical, and the pcv system, and various switches. I then had to stop and work on other customer projects(various warranty work). Next day, today, I spent as much time as I could on the car. The hoses are routed, front to back of the car. Thats the oil feed lines/return lines, steel bradied and rubber. I also mounted the oil pump assembly, with their trick pump bracket. All in all, I had to wisper sweet nothings to the power steering cooler to relocate it. Little bastard didn't want to go up the inch it need to be raised at first,...due to mildly touching the cooling fan on the passenger side. I was able to mount the cooler where specified by sts,...I just had to bend the bracket a little bit away from the fan. No big deal, easy fix.

The instructions, are good, to a point. Thank goodness i'm familiar with the Y bodies...otherwise, on a couple of things, i'd probably stratch my head for a minute or two. Couple of things irriated me for a minute...like some of the instruction PICTURES,.....are for a C5. Ok,...i'm working on a C6. Soo,...some things where a little different. The turbo feed pipes are different...I kinda had to take the two pipes together, and see how the factory system went,...to see what the angles of the pipes where.

I was about to hang the turbo's tonight but,...I was somewhat occupied by the two female guests that came to hang out, my other buddies working on probably the only TURBO charged satrun redline ION in the bay next to me making faces at me,...about the two girls....and my own car on my mind,...knowing that I had to still put it up in the air to see what was up with my recent drivability problems. It was 8:30 when I called it quits.

The intercooler,....wasn't that bad,...once I realized that I had to take alot of the plastic ducting outta the front bumper to get the cooler in. The instrutcions really didn't say anything about that. It's just after the third time trying to stuff in the intercooler, I realized it just wasn't gonna work.
But, it all worked out. Oh, I gotta say, drilling the MAF sensor, was a little weird...I wasn't soo much worried about ruining it, since I have three in my tool box but,...its was a little daunting. But, if you take your time, drill right,..and slow, the plactic won't crack....and your sensor will be good to go.

So....in the end...my progress is....
All electric is done, except for the boost gauge, AFR gauge,(wires and lines are ran though) and boost controller.
Intercooler is in. Pipe from intercooler to MAF to TB is in. Looks kinda crazy I might add.
Intake for turbo's in back are mounted, H pipe is off.... all PCV hoses are mounted and neatly routed, all oiling syste hoses are routed, neatly and wrapped in heat resistent foil where needed. stock catback was show horned off....all inner wheel wells are out, wheels where off before the car was cool...... PCM was moved, or simply mildly moved.... and thats about where I am.

I have to mount the turbo's, mount the hangers for them, run ALLLLLLLLLLL of the pipeing, hoses, clamps....etc etc..... attach the boost controller, waste gates, and BOV....change plugs,......re-attach body panels...and reverse the process. Throw in a base tune....and take it directly to the dyno.

So far, It's been a learning experience,....and i've been cusing very little....except when I couldn't get the passenger muffler out. I was barking ...twisting..etc etc. Then I just loosened the cradle bolts...came out no problem(don't use air tools on corvette cradle bolts front or rear, ever).

Thats it. Hopefully, tomorrow I won't be slammed with so much work that Ican't spend time with it but, we are a new car dealership,....and we have to take care of our warranty customers, in a timely fashion. So,...we'll see.

I'll let you know...how the rest goes... I'll try and have a friend take some pictures of the install.

Later...

I think the hardest parts on my C5 were tapping the wire under the fuse box (just a bugger to get at) and getting the pipes through the frame rails. Their instructions said nothing about cutting the car and lubing the pipes...which you had to do.

Does it say to break in the oil pump dry right in the beginning? It was surprising to see that. Sounds like you got it licked. If the turbo inlet pipes dont line up dont be afraid to loosen the compressor and turbine housings.

Have fun!

Thank you for the advice man.

Today...I mounted the turbo's, all bolts left loose... H-pipe on,...CAT back on...all hoses wrapped in heat tape where needed.... all lines ran, and attached to their locations except for waste gates, BOV, PCV...... I notched the PINCH WELD inside of both rocker panels. They recommend a sawzaw....I didn't think it would fit but,...if you work it, turn it upside down, it works. Filter pipes are half mounted...... rocker pipes are ran through the rocker panels.....waste gates attached....intercooler silicones couplers are on....

...now whats left is, injectors, boost controller, BOV, minor wireing, attaching the pipes that go through the front cradle to the intercooler....tighten everything.

Probably another 5 or more things i'm missing but....i'll figure it out tomorrow.

Oh, I have to cut the wheel wells and brake ducts. I was also shorted in the box the predator, and one silicone coupler. Dammit. The one coupler pisses me off the most.... but i'm sure i'll find it locally.

Other then that....it's quite a site to see,....looking at the two turbo's and TIAL waste gates....from underneath the car on a lift. Quite a setup. I must have about 15 people a day come back to look at it. It is nuts.

I'll take pictures NANDO...hopefully tomorrow.

As far as my car, well, I pulled my TAYLOR wires off....which are wrapped in kevlar socks....and three where either broken or shredded. I belive they were sitting too close to my lg headers.

I'll make a new coil re-location kit for it on saturday...

until tomorrow...

Ok,..somewhat finished.

I hung/routed all the pipes on the car. I gotta say, it looks pretty crazy. We did take some pictures but, I'll have them probably tomorrow.

I need to put all the hose clamps on...bov...injectors,..plugs and wires. Oh, boost controller as well.

All in all,..it wasn't that bad. I still need to mate the wheels wells with the car again,....after I cut them first, for the added clearence over the pipes.

Tomorrow, I should be finished. Saturday was just too bust at work.

Good eye man. Nice to see more then one hetero eye in the room. lol.

No picture's i'm willing to post anyways...lol. I'm sure, next time I go out with them....i'll be sure to get them to pose for the camera...(we'll be somewhat intoxicated to loosen up ofcourse)... One is brunette...the other is a blonde. The dark haired chica...has a smokin' hot perfect body. Dammit...now that i'm thinking of it,..i'm gonna have to car her. bastard.

Anyways, she's hot. The blonde,....well...she's a full figured, healthy young girl...both 22 years old,...both like to party, both like to chill. I could go on and on really. Nothing better then cars,.....but women.

That said....I gotta say, this STS car runs really nice man. I'm not sure if I go as far as saying I had "FUN" on the install but...I did enjoy installing the kit. I could see how if it was my own car,......I probably would have had fun, like yourself, dude. I spent, more time then i'm willing to admit, and more time that I got paid for......hours more. I felt, the extra steps I took, where the proper things to do, even though the instructions didn't specify. For example, the way I routed the hoses, boost/bov/waste gates/oil, etc etc. I was trying to go fast but,....this is work, you really don't wanna rush...know what I mean?....

So..everything is tight, everything is good. I drove it today, not before installing my custom tune from diablosport(my kit was missing the handheld programmer that comes with the kit)(so I had a tune made). Which, I gotta say, the car fires right up, no hicups...no SES lights, no problems, no nada. I'm very impressed with the drivability of this thing. It's soo different then mine. It was, infact, my first time ever DRIVING a twin turbo corvette.....and it was pretty friggin groovey. You can feel, as you accelerate, the car starts to pull harder, and harder. Pretty dope.

This car, as noted, is an auto, with NO other modifications, other then the new installed kit,..I added MSD wires as well(stock GM wires suck, for trucks, cars, whatever has an LSX motor). It drives very nice, power delivery is nice, with a smooth, linear transition of planting your ***, firmly into the seat, as you get faster and faster. I didn't go more then 100mph. Just a quick 40 to 100,...and a nice lift. Again, very smooth. This kit on my car, would be nuts, i'm sure. I still don't think "I" could do it though, just do to my car not having enough clearence, clearence. I say that do to the two charge pipes, that go underneath the front engine cradle....and into the intercooler, which I must say, is PIMP. My car, I fear, is just too low for that. Although, on this C6,...those pipes, are not THAT bad...as in, not that low. Granted, this car is at stock ride height.

Well...STS,..I gotta say,....very nice job guys,...i had a couple of issues with my instructions, which where part C5, part C6....I fixed that problem by going to their website, and downloading the instructions for the C6. After that, which I had already guessed on most of the things....it went well. The kit, and design, for THIS PACKAGE, are honestly, top notch. No mickie mouse stuff at all. I know this wasn't a "base" kit I installed but, it was nicely thought out. Whoever built it,...i'd like to shake your hand.

Sorry, for the lack of pictures, I was making love to the car all day, so I had no time to even think about pictures. I'll try and remember in the early morning....as the customer is gonna be picking it up then. Who knows, maybe he can make a quick video for me.

...alright...i'll shut up now....

Peace out.

J

Thanks phantom.

I know we didn't take any today..I know we didn't get any of the finished product. I guess thats mostly my fault but, honestly man, "I" was just slammed with work,...with no real time to stop and snap anything. I even have a digital in my toolbox,...ten feet away. Just didn't make time for it. I ALWAYS SNAP PICTURES OF my projects...but, wouldn't you know it.."i" didn't take any of my first twin turbo vette. dammit man.

I did take a few with my camera phone....lol....don't think it'll do much justice.

I hope my service advisor albert took some for me. If non where taken, i'll have my buddies at the dyno take some video, and pic then.

If not...I know, i'm a bastard.

Yeah, it did take some time but, kinda happy when he(the owner) told me that they just installed a kit on his friends C5 Z06,...and it took them 3 months. Which, is why they brought his car to us. So, I don't feel as bad anymore.

as far as the chicks bro....you should have seen the two cuties I saw tonight. One, I know, the other, was a nice, new face.

I was supposed to hang out with the one we were talking about tonight but,....I was too tied up to call her back. I'll have to make it up to her tomorrow.
