*spy pics* corvette SS/Blue Devil
looks like the 650hp Z06 is slated for the '09 model year, the fall of '08 maybe?
better start throwing my spare change in a jar post haste if I'm gonna have one in my driveway.

we first reported on Chevrolet's plans for a super Corvette, a halo model well in excess of the already superb Z06. Judging by these spy shots, it appears assurances we were given earlier this year that the car was on the development fast track ("To Hell and Back," May 8) were right on target.
While the hood scoop indicates this is something other than an ordinary Z06, the real prize is under the hood where our spies heard the whine. of what is most likely a super-charged 6.2-liter V8 pushing as much as 650 hp. The engine, which will be hand-built at a rate of 1500-2000 per year at the General Motors Performance Center outside of Detroit, features an integrated intake manifold intercooler similar to the one GM developed for the Cadillac STS V-Series.
So far, names for the production supercharged Corvette include everything from Z07 to Blue Devil to Corvette SS to Sting Ray. No matter what they call it, look for production of the 2009 model to start in early 2008. And set aside at least $ 100,000 if you want one in your driveway.

I think quite a few, for a couple of reasons: Most people driving the new Z06 can afford a few grand more. Let's face it, a guy who can buy a 90k (what most of the C6 Z06s are selling) car can afford 120-140k car - no big deal. Secondly, more than anything, the Z06 is a status symbol. The point of owning a C6 Z06 allows someone to have the ultimate C6 (stock, anyway).
Maybe the C6 Z06 will come down in the 40k range in the next 10 years - that's 60% of the sticker, but we will see.

When the C6 was released I was amazed at how many C5 ZO6's were on dealer lots. Most I cruised by had at least one!
used '05 C6's are already 35k. fully loaded MSRP on them are 52k. 17k loss in a year is huge. if GM keeps pumping the '06 Z06 out, prices should drop into the 50k range used by the end of next year.

You made my point though, many (most?) C6 Z06 owners aren't going to put a cam/headers on their car. They are keeping them in their garage and driving them on the weekends. It would be easier for them to go out and trade up. Also, you can't really compare a modded car to a stock car because of the reliability. A modded car is not as reliable as a bone stock car.
