Default First mods on C5?

I just bought my 00 C5 3 weeks ago and still have some money from my Camaro being sold. It is bone stock except for Corsa exhaust and lowered. What should I do first? I keep hearing either a V-ram or blackwing.

the vararam , blackwing, or halltech are the most popular and intakes for the c5 they all work about the same. so its just you prefrence on what you want and how much you want to spend.

I did the zip-tie also. Still haven't decided if I'm going NA or opting for the Kenne Bell blower.

yup. id say either intake or headers. I put a raptor xxl intake on and it felt great, let alone looks great. I think headers are a bit more expensive mod than intakes. cant wait till i get my LG headers

I'm gonna toss my vote at some Texas speed and performance long tubues w/ connecting pipes. They are ceramic coated and just look great. With the corsas (depending on model) this could make for a very agressive sounding vette... (I know )

cost is about double the price of a blackwing or any other "CAI" but well worth it.. No cam until you have supporting mods...

just my .02.. If your doing any racing (like street racing) i'd say tires would be the best bang for your buck mod.

A lot depends on what your oveall power goals are. Keeping that in mind, you can buy parts wisely. Unlike myself being the impluse buyer, I have ended up buying the 'same' part many times.

As long as you’re not planning to exceed 500rwhp in the near future, I’d say put in a set of 4.10 gears. That’s by far the best single mod I have done to my car.

It’s been a while, but I think the gears were about $1100 installed.

Just a gear swap. It sounds kind of expensive compared to what it would cost for an fbody, but the Vette rear is a totally different deal. Still it’s about the same as a set of headers, and just a little more than a cat back exhaust. You get way more bang for the buck from the gears than you do from the headers or cat back. Even if the rest of the car is stock, the gears make it much more fun to drive. It FEELS like it has 75 more horsepower.

who installed the gears? i've heard alot of bad things with rebuilding/swapping gears or any parts inside the IRS. Usually get some whine afterwerds..

I'm just going to get a built one with harden input shafts etc when the time comes..

I second the differential swap. Other than heads and cam or FI, it will probably make the biggest difference in the performance of the car.

You definitely do not want to just swap the gearset, unless it is done by a very competent shop. Check out corvetteforums.com you will often find built differentials in the parts for sale section.

I would do the following in order.

Vararam, I had the Blackwing they are both good but the Vararam delivers true outside air.

LS6 intake swap, if your car does not have one.

LT headers, brand does not really matter but I installed Melrose LT's (superior construction to any header I have seen to date).

The above can be done around 2K if your good at finding deals.

Did it come with the stock shifter? If so, I would ghange it out with a Hurst or the new B&M shifter. I did the B&M. Also change the trans oil to a good synthetic like Amsoil, redline etc. You would be surprised what a differance it makes. Congrats enjoy the Corvette!!!!!

If you want a quick mod that will get you real RWHP do the Raptor XXL I have seen a 2000 FRC C5 pick up 16.3 hp @ the wheels with this 15min install and it looks bad ***. For the money I would say its the most performance you can buy for the dollar.

CAI and a cat-back, followed by headers.... It's around $1200 JUST for the gears (no labor)
