02 z06 vs 99 c5
Ok guys i am a noob about vettes so be easy on me. I came to the conclusion that eventhough i was in love with the 03/04 Cobras there are WAY to many running around my small town, so i cant handle getting a car 10 other people have. Second i LOVE the sounded of a Cammed v8. Well with all of that in mind i want a c6...however i dont have that kinda money so i figure i can get a c5, cam it, and spray and ill be a very happy man. If it wasnt for the "BLAH" fronts of the C5's i'd be all over them. So anyways i know the 02 x06 has a great power setup stock. However i dont like the "rear window" look of the z06's. I like the regular c5 look how it goes all the way back. So anyways what kind of power difference would i be looking at from either two cars and also would i be dumb with going for a c5 vs a z06? I would love 450-470, with LT's, full exhaust, intake, a good size cam (MS3), maybe heads? and of course more with a 100 shot.

If you can pick up an '02 Z06 cheap enough, I'd go for it over the '99 C5. There are enough little performance and handling advantages that come with the Z06 to make it worthwhile.
If the rear window in the Z06 really bothers you, then go with the '99 and build it up, and don't look back. Cam, heads and the LS6 intake, plus long tube headers and a good exhaust sytem will get you past the Z06 in terms of 1/4 mile performance.
Check out this video of an '02 Z06 that we built up. http://www.noobzor.com/epp/ttvette.wmv Bob

HOLY FAWK! That setup just gave me wood? Is that gay? lol I would love that. I just which the window went all the way back because i would be all over the z's
but i think, if i can find a built motored c5, or maybe get one with a 402 or 408 i'd be in luck!!

Here's my take on it....
I absolutely LOVE the rear glass look of the Z06 which is why I bought the FRC. Actually, I dislike the hatch of the regular C5. Looks too much like any other hatchback on the road and I like to be just a little different (like you said with all the Cobras running around) When it comes down to it, the Z06 wasnt worth all the extra scratch. I plan on doing LT's, full exhaust, some bolt ons, and eventually a G5x3 came or so. The car will MOVE. Get whichever one you like the look of better and can afford.

Hatch>FRC... atlease with tinted window on a black coupe.. it loos like part of the car and it makes the car IMHO... Topless is always better... this works on many levels but we will keep this topic about cars.. There is nothing like being able to take the top off again IMHO. I wouldn't get a vert just becuase i hate the way they look with the top on..

I have to go with Ell Ess Won. I absolutly love the short window on the Z06's and FRC's. They look great! and they are much stronger. I got a steal on my 03 Z06 with 16,000 miles on it for about 30 grand. if u find a great deal grab it. I would say get the reg C5 if you plan on stripping it and making a full drag car, not saying it cant be done to a Z06. With a Z06, lets take mine for instance, its gonna be a show and race car. All I did to it so far is an intake and a B&B Catback and it hit mid 11's, even tho these cars are capable of doing 11's bone stock. either way once u drive any corvette you cant get over it. Get what u feel is right and do some research and shopping. u wont be dissapointed at all with a Z06. lol

I agree with you guys, I LOVE TAKEING the top off (are we still talking about cars!) Im not making this a drag car, thats the last thing i want to do. I just want to make it to exactly my likeings. With the money i save on a c5 i can build the motor like i want and still save money rather than going with a z06.

now i must admit (AND BELIEVE I DONT WANT TOO lol) but that z06 is just BEAUTIFUL! ^^^^I would love a 408. But i guess ill see what i get.
I do have one question as far as the z06's go...would a aftermarket set of heads benefit these cars? I thought they use ls6 heads? So wouldnt they be a great match for a G5x3 cam? That plus full exhaust and underdrive pulley should be aroudn the 450/450 (if not a lil better) plus a 125 shot should equal some darn good numbers

Z06 = LS6 engine... sodium filled valves, and good heads. a port job can only help the heads and bolt ons and a good matched cam can net 450 RWHP easily nowadays.
and thanks for the compliment on the car

As a previous owner of a '97 coupe and now a Z06, the Z06 wins in every catagory out there. Plus at the end of the day, instead of just another C5 I have a Z06 parked out front. Check my sig for stock with only a CAI and DRs time, (record is 11.5x) then check the time running n2o and still a bone stock longblock, not even headers. The Z06 is a better braker, accelerator, corner'er, tracker, drager and the list goes on, compared to the C5. It also holds it value better. If you have the means, nothing out there has the same ooooh, as a Z06.

If I had the choice I would take a coupe with a Targa top in my Z06 any day of the week.
Now I would take a LS6 though before hand.
I don't get that "gee I wish I had a LS6" feeling when I get in the car.
Now I just get the "gee I wish I had a C6" feeling...
I am so pathetic.
