Default Looking at a Z06

Hi guys. I am in the process of possibly trading my t/a in on a 02 Z06. It is silver and has only 6200 miles on it. Car is showroom condition. He is asking $35000 for it. I may be able to get him down 1k or 2k. You guys think that is a good price?

I have also been looking into mods already, lol. The prices for the vette performance parts are crazy compared to the f-bodies. Any tips on what I should look for? I have driven a 03 Z06 before and that car is just crazy

What is with this holding the active handling button down for 8 seconds after starting? Didn't do that to the 03 that I drove. I wanted to go procharger, but I really want the lump and idle of a nice cam. Maybe a G5x3 and some spray???? Not really sure. May just stay stock for a year or so, like I said maybe, HAHAHA It still has the stock tires on it, what would be good tires for it? anyting with a nitto drag radial in those 18" size? Thanks to all that respond!

Prices of Vette's are in the eye of the beholder. The 02 sounds like a mid to high retail price but if it's mint he will get it from a private buyer somewhere. Vette's are all about mileage and color.

Make sure he has service records and that all recalls have been done. Check for the steering colum lock recall, battery replacement (old setup leaked on the ECU), no "rocking seat" as well as a resealed rear end (Most C5's leak). Tires are also expensive! There are not a whole lot of aftermarket tires for the Z06 unless you go with another rim.

I was also going to go procharge on my 02 Z06 but after seeing what the total damage was going to be I opted with a new '60 TV, surround sound, MS3 cam, longtubes and a tune. I'll be happy with close to 500Hp....

Let me know if you have any questions. I've been through them all with mine and don't regret it at all! You get what you pay for!

bfg kdw-2 is a bad *** tire to run, #2 most inexpensive tire, cheapest tire you can run and still get some miles and performance from them is the khumo ecsta mx. i pulled 28k out of the fronts and 26k out of the rears.

if it were me, take a slightly higher mileage car for less money. i would never buy a 5 year old car with low miles and pay high dollar for it. here is a comparison, there are a dozen '05 C6's with 30k miles on them all around my area... for $34,900!!!!

id feel pretty dumb buying a '02 for 35k, finding out i could have had a '05 C6 instead.

you dont have to hold any buttons down when you start the car. all that does is put the car in competitive driving mode, not necessary for normal driving.

you want some bump? go with a stroker motor. my 403 would out run my old set up P1 blower@6psi. Besides if you drive your car like you stole it, the stock pistons cant handle boost. i have #5 and #7 sitting in my garage that proves my statements.

I think thats a little high. Id say $33k is a great price.

There are alot of Turbo options too...STS, TTiX and APS...you can get 530rwhp+ at low boost levels on cheap gas. Once you go turbo you'd never go back...its unbelievable.

Well the way I look at it. The c6's are nice *** cars. However I have heard bad things about the 05 vettes. Battery and electrical problems and some other problems. I am also looking at it as and investment too. I can't believe that there are 05 c6 vettes for that price, but then too in 5 years they are not going to be worth crap with more miles on them. The resale is already shot to **** on them. Now the car I am looking at in 5 years will be paid for with low miles and still get some good money out of the car. Plus do you really think a 05 c6 with those miles has not been beat to hell??? This car I know hasn't. I do think it is a little high price wise, but i will try to get him down a couple of grand.

Went to 41 today and seen a bunch of vettes. I was very disappointed on how they ran. The fastest one was a C6 with a auto(12.49 in think was his best) I will say that a lot of it is definitely driver error, big time! Don't really see how you can miss second twice in a row. LOL Seems like there is a fine line in launching the car with the manual. I will be practicing for sure to compete with my buddies f-bodies, they are low 12's.

Thanks for the responses and your opinions so far. Keep them coming.

btw thanks z062424 for the heads up on the recalls.

I jinxed myself. I went to the Turkey Run yesterday (over 5000 cars!) and took the Vette. When I pulled it out of the garage this morning to clean it I noticed some fluid on the ground. Guess what is leaking again! That rear diff. Beautiful. Less than $100 in parts but it's a pain to reseal....ughhhhh. Didn't even seal for a year.

sucks to hear that. I had looked under the car and it was dry and spotless. Then again with 6200 mile it should, lol.

Can you just use RTV silicone sealant?

Did the 4.11's help out alot in the 1/4 mile? If so how much?
I am thinking of eventually going with a G5x3 cam and some nitrous. For now that car is plenty fast. I drove a 03 Z06 before. Left it in second and at 3000rpms and then slammed it. chirped them into third. I was close to just letting off, fast compared to the T/a. Damn near scared the **** out of me. Fast cars for stock for sure. Modded they must be insane.

This is exactly the same boat I'm in. Selling my 02 z28 for 02 z06. It will be nice to have a car just as fast only bone stock. Hope to keep the vette for awhile as a dd, and maybe some bolt ons to make her go, and you can not beat the looks of a z06. Driver mod probably the most important one

Buy it, Buy it, Buy it! There is your answer. I used mine for a daily for about 4 months. I got tired of such a pretty car always being dirty so I made it a weekend fun car. And what a fun car it is! After getting out of the daily and jumping in the Z06 it's like Christmas time! Happy Happy, Joy Joe! Even with costs being a little higher for aftermarket it's worth it. At least it's a healthy hobby....expensive, but healthy.

I bought mine at the end of august and have been daily driving since. It's been an exceptional car with no problems and only minor compromises that come with driving most sports cars. It has good visibility, performs well all around, parts are available and aren't ridiculously expensive and it's just an overall fun car to drive. For the kind of money you can pick one up now, it's the perfect sports car.

I just bought one last week, 2002 with 7700 miles on it for $33000. $35000 is to much!

With the mileage you should be able to pick one up from $30K-$32K. Anyways, I picked mine up last year and you can see the mods in my sig. I'm going to take it in sometime in the next few weeks and let them tweak the tune a little. It is a little rich right now due to the heat when I installed the cam. I'm thinking it should put somewhere between 435-440 at the wheels and closer to 400 tq. I love the car, I would not hesitate buying one. Just make sure you are getting a good deal.

just to counter your question is a car with that kind of mileage beat on? opposed to a car that looks mint and had 35 trips down a drag strip and has 1000 miles on the clock, because it was a "weekend only toy", does that mean it wasnt beat on because of mileage?

Mileage has nothing to do with abuse or condition of a car. I have 52k miles on my '04 as a DD. Yes, im on a new motor now, because i did the stupid thing and bought a P1 blower and thought that the stock motor could handle 6 psi and it couldnt. When my motor was taken apart, it was beautiful, except for #5 and #7. cylinder walls perfect, bearings perfect, everything looked MINT internally, like a low mileage car, but it had 50684 miles on the clock. My car was maintained very well, many things replaced under warranty, every recall done plus some. I was doing oil changes sometimes monthly. tranny fluid & rear end diff fluid every 15k miles.

Did you have the rear seals done everytime you found a leak?

I agree that mileage does not mean anything. Too bad the car industry doesn't think so! Average miles for a "sports car" is between 5-8K per year. I would rather get a car that has a few miles on it. That way I know the bugs have been worked out! As long as the previous owner took care of the car you are gold. My buddy has an 03 Cobra that is used just for the track. The car is beautiful on the outside/inside but it takes a beating on a weekly basis. Looking at the car and mileage (3,000) you would think it's brand new. Would you want a car that some old guy drove daily or a car that one of us got our hands on and beat the crap out of? That is why finding out the previous owner in crucial! Get the carfax and do your homework from there. Owners are easy to find. I had a guy find me two years later on an old bimmer of mine. He called to compliment me and find out exactly what I had done to the car.

Hey guys, just bought that vette today! I was able to get home down a couple of grand.

The original owner had the car for over 5 years. He is in his mid 50's. I learned that he is a collector and wanted to keep the Z06 but bought a new C6 Z06 and had no place to keep this car. He is a very nice guy, personally talked with him on the phone Thanks guys for letting me know about the recalls. All of the recalls are done on the car.

I was able to find a few 05 C6's for cheap. Can't believe that a car that costs over 50k new, and in one year isn't worth ****. Sorry but I don't want to lose my *** on this car. Although I will end up keeping this car along time.

So guys thanks for your advise and your opinions! Just wish it was not raining out. I know alot about f-bodies but not alot about the vettes. SO I'm sure I will be on here asking questions.
