Default To stroke... or not to stroke...

A few of you have probably read my LS6 died last tuesday, of uknown causes (still being debated). But now its time to go back with another motor. I basically drive the car everyday, and i'm not afraid of putting a "big cam" in my daily, just so long as its semi quiet. (gonna have to change the current exhaust to achieve that) But the main use for the motor would be running around the streets wit hit, and once a month i autocross.

So... with that being said, should i just build a stock cube motor with ported heads and big cam? Or should I go with something stroked (particular 423 actually) with maybe a smaller big cam?

I'm also thinking about going with an iron block, i know its heavier, but i think it will handle the boost/nitrous better when it gets it thrown at it.

FOR NEW READERS... I HAVE DISCONTINUED THE THOUGHT OF THE IRON BLOCK, IT WILL STAY ALUMINUM WHETHER IT BE 346 or 402/403

If your thinking of boost I would say no stroker, buy if your going NA with some juice I think stroking is good for that combo.

Hey skippy...I said till you are all said and done you will have $7k in a good stroker...dont recall saying anything about a turbo cost...but for inquiriing minds Ive seen STS TT C5 kits from $5600-$6995..add 60lb motrons and a good tune...you will have 530+rwhp/TQ for a little more than $7k...then sell your LT headers, Cold air intake and cat back...you are even. You can do the install yourself..APS im not sure about.. Strokers are really obsolete on C5s expecially since you have LS6 heads/cam.

You mentioned autocrossing once a month, so I'd keep an iron block out of the car.
I'd go with a LS2 block with a 4.0" stroker crankshaft. We built this engine for power under 5000 rpm, and it has a ton of torque. http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com...Car.php?car=39 Bob

If your gonna go F/I then stick with "Stock Displacement"
If your gonna run N/A and/or N2o, then go with a larger displacement stroker..

I'm actually thinking about sticking to a nicely forged 346, Trex cam and my 243's ported... or MAYBE putting same 243'd and Trex in a 403 LS2

Depends on what you want. You can have a big cammed 346 that is hard to drive on the street, but makes lots of power on one side. Then you could do a stroker with a cam that the cubes eat up and make it sound stock, and have all the driveability of the car with the same power as a cammed 346.

Theres is no turbo cars that respond like a large cubbed tightly wound MOTOR. No boost to build, no question to when it's gonna hit. Just stab it, and go. Every tubo car I race, I put on the bumper as soon as we go WOT. EVERY TURBO CAR. If you like driving daily, or the auto cross, I'd go with a 402, and some new GM heads.

Either way, your spending money. If you wanna make me an offer for the LS6 I have with 14k miles in storage, AFR 205's, good cam, fast 90, and a bunch of other stuff, let me know.

I say 402 with spray we have one in a shop car and it's still untuned and not broken in. On pump gas she is puttin down 530 rwh and 505 tq plenty of power under the curve. very responsive and drives almost like a stock one. She still has the zo6 tit. exhaust on so it is quiet car drives great you would love it. I would say she can destroy most anything from a roll. If not she has a 2 stage spray set up to even stuff out.
