Default 01 Z06 Spray/Clutch

I have an 01 Z06 basically stock and I am putting a 100 shot on it. I dont plan on launching on spray. So will the stock LS6 clutch hold up with a 100 shot?

My 2nd gear is on its way out (synchros maybe), but the car is under warranty so I am taking it in soon. I know the trans mechanic at the dealership and he said he would put whatever clutch I give him in there while it is being repaired under warranty. I figure this is a great opportunity to save labor costs if I ever wanted to upgrade the clutch in the future, but I hear so many stories about bad aftermarket clutches, dont buy spec clutches, ls7 clutch is a waste or will glaze over, etc...etc

So I really would like to stick with my stock LS6 clutch but I am afraid it wont hold the ~450RWHP I will be making with the spray...OR WILL It? I really dont plan on any more power than this. The goal is for the car to be 100% stock + 100 Shot.

IDEAS?? SUGGESTIONS? I am all ears.

Definitely will not hold! Go ahead and get the clutch now or you'll regret it later. If been doing some research and heard the same things as you regarding spec, LS7, etc. I'm still undecided. Obviously Textralia is the choice if you can swing the $$, but aside from that it's seems like a toss up.

Post up which way you decide, but you should definitely upgrade from the stock LS6!

Good luck!

I am replacing my stock clutch in my 99 FRC next weekend. The stocker won't hold at the strip with just 310 RWHP and powershifting. I did alot of research about clutches and decided to go with the RAM PowerGrip HD. All I heard about the SPECS were they will come apart, stock LS7 clutches won't hold etc. This is just my opinion and what information I found when searching for a clutch. I believe that the RAM will be a good clutch that should take some abuse for a long time. Good luck with whatever you choose.

The first time I sprayed my car with a 100hit the ls6 clutch slipped, it won't hold. I went with the Textralia when they first came out, 2 seasons ago, and 200 sprayed passes later it hasn't missed a beat. I am hitting currently 170rwhp out of the hole at 5500rpm and a basic clutch dump, no worries, then second stage balance of 250rwhp shot comes in at 4400rpm in second gear and it holds all the way to redline. I would rec this clutch highly if your going to do some racing.

A few points to mention as to why I am hesitant about the Textralia. I bought one a little after they first came out for my camaro SS back a couple yrs ago. I had NOTHING BUT PROBS with it. But after reading so many good things about it, I must have been unlucky and must have gotten a bad one. 2 master cylinders and slave cylinders later, we still could not get it right. It would just engage right off the floor and then I would eventually lose the pedal.

Also, I didnt plan on spending more than 500 (bc i originally had it in my head that I would be doing an LS7 clutch).

HOWEVER, I have yet to read of one person having probs with the Textralia with their C5. Based on everyones high praise of the clutch, I might just have to try it again, but $1000 ouch for just a 100 shot on a stock car it is a bit much, but oh well, do it right the first time right?

Let me ask you Robert, or anyone that has done the Tex clutch...do you have engagement or pedal loss issues at all? Do you ever have to bleed it or change the fluid? I have owned 2 Z06's now and the stock LS6 clutch has been perfect on both. My first had 385RWHP with 2 bolt ons and it held like a champ. This 01 has 362rwhp with just exhaust and my tune.

So what to do??????

No bleeding at all, and all stock hydraulics. I do keep the fluid in the master changed out every so often. Did you ever call the guys at Tex about your issues, they would have bent over backwards to make it right, that's part of the appeal. I had some problems with the shop that installed mine (not tex prob) and I got a call from Aussie land to make sure everything was sorted out. Great service, best in the industry.

Yeah they were hard to get ahold of and werent too helpful, but i guess I just had a rare bad experience. I suppose I will try again since everyone loves this clutch.

I ended up getting the Textralia and WOW...it has been great. I have about 300 miles on it and just finished the nitrous install so it is ready to rock.

Clutch pedal is nice and stiff and has not lost any stiffness since install. The clutch is pretty smooth for what it is. Not as smooth as stock, but really not bad at all. Very very little chatter and no strange noises or anything odd at all. AND YOU CAN FEEL IT GRIP! It grips hard and holds strong. I am impressed so far.

Congrats on the clutch!! I should have mine by next month. Found someone who can do the install for me, so I may go ahead and spring for the textralia. Glad to hear to everything went well and the tx was "as advertised".

So where's your 10.xx slip? I could make one 1/4 pass in your car with a 200 shot and toast your stock clutch. The torque spike on that amount and basics pyhisics hold that statement true, and many 100's have been there before. So am I calling BS, I think so. However, you may be doing some part throttle easy street sprays, but that don't count.
