Default From GTP to Vette

Hey, what's up guys. Have been a member for a while, but haven't posted much (I like to lurk around on the forums representing the car I'm going to buy for a while, doing research, etc, before I go and do it). Well, have to say bar-none the ls1 is an awesome platform for modding.

I was debating for a while on whether or not to turbo my high 13s GTP (and drop potentially 10k on the car on turbo and tranny) to get mid/low 12's here in Texas, but after watching a friend of mine with his bolt-ons LT/LSX/S90'd camaro bust 12.7's on street tires with a 2.0 60' (it's cammed now, btw, so probably low 12's now), right off the highway to the staging lanes, and hot lapped, with the same or less money into his car than me, I decided it was time for a platform change.

So I've upgraded to a white 2001 Corvette C5 A4 w/ HUD and 32k on the clock for a fairly decent price. I'm not sure what gear I have or how to tell (2.73 vs 3.15 I believe?). These things run mid/high 13's stock right?

Also is there anything I should know about these cars (notorious failures, quirks, TSB's/recall's). Already noticed the body flex from the test drive (targa top).

BTW, to all the T/A WS6 owners out there, you guys have f'cking beautiful cars. It was a tough choice not to buy a T/A (but the Vette is a notorious p****-getter, I've been told ).

BTW, the Vette rides nicer than I thought it would (and has plenty of leg room--and I'm 6'1/6'2).

Congratulations, definately better to have the Vette that drop 10 grand in the GTP. My buddy went from a low 13 sec. GTP to a mid 12 sec. cammed GTO, and now to a Vette, and he said he loves the Vette compared to the other two. If your car is a 2.73 car, it is probably a mid 13 sec car, but with a stall and gear, you are easily in the 12's. Have fun, be safe, and take it easy until you get used to the RWD.

That's not a firethorn interior on the Vette is it??? I can't tell if it's black or dark red. If it's the firethorn, I'm going to be green with envy. I LOVE that combo.

Good looking car none the less though.

I checked with him, the interior is tan leather with grey carpet.

Tim, about time you get into a RWD car.

I'm sure you'll be faster than me soon enough.

EDIT: Just caught this, S90'd? What's that?

S90=Slammed 9.0 inches, which I'm told is how much ride height you have to take off of a stock camaro to go from 4x4 to showable ride-height Not that my GTP was any better (had a demod sale up on the gtp forums, and someone made me an offer on my lift kit--true story ).

Meant to say S3--Shaner 3--or whatever that thing is.

Congrats on the new ride. For me in Michigan, the Camaro is stored in the winter and the Grand Prix is for all the other crappy days out there (rain and winter). Sharp GP too. You'll love the vette by far!!!

You can tell what gears you have by the glovebox codes, as GU2 will be the 2.73s. If you see G90, it's got the 3.15s.

In stock trim they are good for mid to low 13s, in cool weather that is. It doesn't take much to get them into the 12s, mine has run a best of 12.81 at 109.4 with just a Vararam intake and dyno tuning. Mine has 3.15 gears in it (which is worth about two tenths compared to the 2.73s)

I've also owned a GTP in the past as was very impressed with how easy it was to get it into the 13s. Mine ran a best of 13.78 at 100mph (on all season radials) with just a 3.4 pulley and a 9" K&N cone filter.
