Default 04 Z06 or 07 C6?

I am wondering what would be the better performer. My needs will be street duty, and weekend 1/4mile runs. The car will be a garage queen for the most part unless its sunny and dry out. I will want a manual trans. What would be the faster of the two? I know the 04 Z06 is fast and sounds glorious in stock trim, but what about the C6? Is it comparable in terms of power?

im pretty sure the Z06 is gonna out perform a stock C6 on the road... the C6's are still very nice but nothins like driving a z06! i defiantly like driving my z06 rather than a C6's. just my opinion.

Its very similar in power its just that the C5Z is more of a hotrod where the C6 is just a vette and has more of your creature comforts. My dad has a C6 with the Z51 with M6 and he would much rather drive my 02 Z, just because its more of a "mans" car i guess.

BTW my mom is not allowed to drive my Z, if she wants to drive a vette she has to drive the C6 because of the reason that the Z is the man vette of the two.

Also, go with the C5Z, it looks better than your everyday C6, unless its the C6 Z06.

Guys I am so torn between the two generations. I LOVE the look of the C6, but I am a sucker for the Z06 power. I have a 2004 cobra currently that makes 455rwhp and 476rwqt, and I dont want to take too big of a step back in terms of power. Thats why the Z06 sounds ok to get becuase yeah its down on HP compared to my cobra but the weight savings of the vette should pretty much make up for most of the power loss going from the cobra. The C6 will be even less, but the style just totally does it for me. I just wanna make sure that I wont be kicking myself in a few months after I get the vetter for selling my monster cobra. Its not even that modded either, but its still a mustang.

who gives a **** how they run stock? Both are simple to modify and make much quicker. Go with which one you can afford and which one you like the appearance of better. Take a few test drives.

I came from a 480rwhp/460rtwq SAE 03 Cobra as well. If you want the feel of power from which you come, the C6 is certainly going to need some mods. I agree that the C5Z has slightly better performance stock from what I've seen at the track but it will probably need some mods as well to at least feel as quick as the Cobra. Some long-tubes and a tune will probably feel much like your cobra with the C6's lighter weight. I'm of the opinion that the C6 looks better than the C5, even the C5Z, but if it weren't for the looks, I would have probably gone with a C5Z back in 05. Today, I would just go for the C6Z.

Personal opinion. Both cars have roughly 400 hp stock.

my $.02... I like the looks of a black C6 much better than the c5Z which is now kinda stale. The C5Z has less insulation, less padding, it's gonna make the experience more raw, but in the end they are both 400hp cars with different creature comforts and looks... and price/warranty.

Pick your poison.

C6 is more refined, can get it with Navigation, nice all around car.

The C5Z is a factory rocket. It's noisier and less refined, but a very low 12 second car that can run low 11's with heads, cam and other supporting mods.

Thanks for the replies. I have to say, I am just in love with the C6 looks and with a few mods like cam, tune and headers it seems that this will be the one I should get. If I get another used 04 I think I am gonna scream. The thought of getting a virgin car from the factory and knowing where its been and how its been treated is extremely important to me, and I guess a c5 z is out since there are no more new ones. Thats where I was when I bought my cobra. I had to get a used one because they are out of production. Well looks like my mind is made up....now what color????

I'm sorry, but that makes very little sense. I love C5 Z's, but putting a C6 next to a C5 and to say one looks less manly than the other, and to say that one is the C6 out of either is just off.

Get the C6, it's a nicer car & with an airbox & some tweaks you'll give a C5Z a run for the money. The looks & HID head lights take the cake. Good luck on your decision.

I dont know, i guess its just me. When my C5Z and my dads C6 are side by side, the Z just looks like it wants to be driven hard and the C6 looks like it just wants to go out for a cruise. Then again im probably biased.

I'm facing the same decision. Sold my 04Z06, had major sellers remorse so looking to replace it with another 02-04Z. Never even considered the C6 because I loved my C5 so much. Now, however, the C6 is growing on me. Considering a C6 w/Z51 package. Pretty sure that with intake, headers, and good tune would put me beyond a stock C5Z06. Problem is that I loved the "race car" effect of my old Z. Definitely a tough decision, but the good news is that either car is great, and you can't go wrong with either choice. Just take a little time to consider each of their pros and cons, then don't look back.

I work at a huge Corvette dealership. (150 in stock in a showroom)

I've driven everything from $110K rare big blocks to steaming piles of crap

I've driven several Zo6's '01-'04 and I've driven several C6's with and without Z51

My favorite car (stock) out of them all is the '07 M6 with Z/51

It's like a Cadillac with *****.

That is a reason why I don't like the c6 that much as a c5Z06. I'm not buy no cadillac I'm buying a vette. I will say the C6 has really grown on me, but I only C6 I would buy would be a C6Z06. Then again I need a crap load of money, lol. The C5Z06 handles, sounds, and feels like nothing else on the road does.

I am biased towards the C5 Z06 but go and test drive both. Buy the one you like!!!! Not what we want you to buy. When you buy a vette make sure you post up some pictures.

You know, the first time I read this, it didn't mean much to me, but after I thought about it, and after driving the C6Z, I agree with you scramblerman. I certainly would never pass up a new Z06; however, the C5Z, with 100 less ponies, had more of a raw nature to it; a real racecar feel to it. You feel everything, and you hear everything in it. Don't get me wrong, I love the new C6Z06, and it IS the most wicked car for the buck....but....for 1/2 the cost...the C5Z is hard to beat.
