Default c5 zo6 first impressions

Well i must say it is exactly the car i thought it would be and more. I recently picked up an 01 zo6 with 75000 miles for 22,500, and i am really impressed. I thought maybe that it was too high of mileage or that i payed too much for a 6 year old car and should've gotten a new one instead, but the more i drive the car the more i am glad i bought it. First off it handles awesome I cant believe how corners i took in my z28 where my car leaned hard, the c5 just stays planted and doesnt lean an inch. And although the frame stays solid and stiff it is not rough on bumpy roads. It has refined feel to the handling 10x better than an f body. And i cant believe how fast it feels. After going from a 390rwhp fbody i was thinking the car would feel slow but i guessed wrong. This thing feels everybit as fast and faster and more stable at high speeds. The interior is a little cheap but it is still a big step up from an f body. Plus i bought the car for performance not interior. Even with that many miles it still does everything very well and feels like a new car no problems whatsoever. I was going to sell my car and use the money for a blower, but i could honestly leave the power level alone and would be happy for now. Good because at 22 I dont really want to spend all my money on the car. Probably after my next raise in the next few months i will do something too it.
Just wanted to post to let you guys know thanks for convincing me to get a vette. And also how much would i gain from an 02 cam swap and do i need to upgrade springs also?

Welcome aboard, bro. Glad you like the Z (I'm not sure how you coudn't). I sold my '05 Goat to get my '03 Z and it was worth it.

Beware of mod-sickness. You WILL catch it.

I have 53000 miles on my 2001 Z06 and the car is great.

Enjoy the car and congratulations on the purchase.

(if you decide to upgrade the motor...I'd suggest going with a bigger cam than I choose and go for maybe TSP's CNC ls6 heads with dual valve springs)

I like the American racing brand headers too..

The rest of the bolt on mods were not worth it in hindsight..(tunnel plate 3.73's TB etc)

The 2004 Z06 shocks made mid corner bump steer a non issue so you may down the road decide to go that route...It was a good mod.

HTH and if you can keep the car stock your better off...(no little BS issues etc)

Don't do the ls7 clutch replacement as its a heavier unit and although not a problem...better to either go ls6 or textrilla ..(again..just my opinion)

I enjoy this car so much I can't bring myself to sell it for what the market is callng for....The car after all these years still makes me laugh as I drive it. Its a race car for the streets without a doubt. Very well done from the factory too...

again congratulations..

I agree with you completely. I would drive my brothers 94 camaro and it had 375rwhp and I thought it was crazy fast. So I was hoping when i got the vette it would stack up. Well everything I hoped it would be it was and then some. Just a sick car. A race car on the street. Oh and you will mod it trust me. headers a cai and a decent cam and set of heads will totally change this car. When i was stock I was able to put 2 cars on my bro's camaro from 40-110. After the mods I gave him the hit and 2 seconds and put 4 cars on him by 110. anyway congrats on the car and enjoy.

I've driven every Zo6.. from '01 to '04....

and I also have experience in powerful f-bodies (one trip to my sig tells the story)

I could tell you the difference in feel from "01 ot "04, but... this thread is about your '01

Very nice carriage. VERY f#cking nice carriage.

I've had so many people with f#cked credit trying their hearts out to get a C5 Corvette.. and when I give them a ride in the '01 "beater Zo6" we have they are drooling.. after I tell them about the thinner whinshield for a 2 pound weight savings, titanium exhaust. blah . blah. f#ckin' blah, blah, blah.

Test drive... SOLD!!!!!!

Congrats man! ~Joshua

Thanks for the replies everyone. I do plan on modding but not the heads and cam route. I already went with a cam that most considered small and did not like it for a daily driver. I also have a friend with a twin turbo gt and i have to say i like the driveability and power of forced induction better. I was thinking of something along the lines of a procharger or whichever complete forced induction kit is the cheapest and puts me over 500rwhp. I was just going to upgrade to the 02 cam to take advantage of the upgraded lift and it's cheap to do vs other cam set ups. Also have any of you picked up horsepower from a tune alone?

I had a modified 99 Cobra that I beat a LS1 WS6 Bird in. After driving a stock A4 Vette I didn't think it felt that much faster. I decided to buy a modified C5 instead and its amazing because my Cobra was all about high rpm and this LS1 pulls 10 times harder down low and pummels it up top as well!

hey congrats on the purchase. I also am toying with selling my SS for a vette. Just tough because I have alot of sweat (and some blood) invested into the SS.

Then I need to decide if I want a C5 Z06, or just a C6. Those C6's are so sexy.

I hate coming into the vette section, makes me start dreaming. Z06's are nasty, they are basically baby H/C LS1's. I think vettes always at least FEEL faster than F-bods b/c your center of gravity is lower sitting in a vette as opposed to an F-bod, and you feel every bit of the torque/power. Where as an F-bod your center of gravity is higher, and the power/torque is traveling more upwards than all on your body. Which is why its common to see a wheelie in an F-bod and very rarely in a vette.

Anyway, congrats, hope I can get one someday.

fwiw..I'd be hestiant to supercharge a 2001 LS6 motor..with stock internals...

Just my opinion but the oil consumption can rear its ugly head.

Just something to consider...
