If you are wanting the car for the performance, C5Z06. If you want a cruiser I would go with the C6...

Having owned three Z06's, an 01, an 04, and now an 07 I have a bit of experience. Also I instruct for a number of clubs and have 1st hand info on the C-6 with the Z51 suspension.

The C-5 Z06's are... NOISY, MEAN, and NASTY. Lots of fun on the street & track. They are just a bit faster than current C-6's but will be trumped by the 430/436 hp. 08 models.

A C-6 with the Z51 suspension is a much more refined car. Also the C-6 is quieter with an overall plusher interior and ride.

I just sold my '04 Z06 and got a '06 C6. I can't feel much of a difference in power but my times at the track are a bit slower in the C6.....both 1/4 mile and road track. The Z06 was about 12.55 and the C6 is about 12.7. I'm not a great driver but I'm pretty consistant with my times.

The looks of the C6 and the new interior options were enough for me to upgrade.

well after weeks of debating, i am thinking of spending a few extra grand, and buying a brand new 07.

I love the looks of the c6, and I believe there is more potential out of the 6.0 than the 5.7 (correct me if I am wrong)

I am also not a fan of buying someone else's car. I have no idea what the previous owner did to the car.

Thanks for all the help so far

To my eyes the C5 is the better looking of the two. While the C6 may have better build quality & a smoother quiet ride I just cant get past the cut off short rear end & the ugly headlights. But , I also don't like the C5 Z06 stubby roof line. So I would go for the 07 C6 convertible paddle shift ~every option~5 Year 100,000 mile coverage~triple black with red seat insert pkg & chrome Z06 wheels with the 08 exhaust option. And just squint when I look at the car from the side. At lest the black headlights don't clash like other colored paint options.

YOU CANT GO WRONG WITH THE Z........The C6 looks good, but will never add up to the Z with the stock mods and performance!

I beg to differ.........check out the motortrend, and car and driver.

They reivew the C6 Z51. They state it is the fastest, best handeling car corvette ever made (with the exception of the LS7 vette)

Good choice by picking the 2008. After you get her broken in and driven a bit make sure you get a good CAI, LG Pro Longtube headers, and TUNE. You should make 430 rwhp easy. LG Motorsports made 507 rwhp and nearly 460 rwtq with the above mods and the g7x4 cam. Have fun with that car. Let the modding begin (bolt on only, don't want to void the warranty)

The HP and torque stats are very similar.
C5 Z06- 405BHP/400ft-lbs torque
C6 Base- 400HP/400ft-lbs torque

However the C6 is 7" shorter I believe, and has a longer wheel base than the C5, which is great for handling. However some people do like that the C5 is the last of the pop up tops.

When my uncle bought his new Corvette in 1998, I was determined that it was the best looking car I'd ever seen, the C6 changed that, especially when you see one up close.

Again the power stats are similar, but the C6 does have some obvious improvements. Drive both, let us know...

I'd love to get a C6, The C5 Z06 is great, but the C6 is better. For the price though I'd pick up an 02 Z06 with low miles and be have some money to spend on mods.

Hated to break the tie, but I was in this dilemma last week. The C6 rides nicer and is stunning in black or Atomic Orange, but I eventually went with a 2004 Z06/Z16 CE. It fit me better both physically and figuratively. You can't lose either way, so congrats on your C6 purchase!

Might as well just save up a little bit more and get the c6 zo6 and have a car outperform and outhandle most $150k and higher supercars... but if not... even though the c5 zo6 is better stock the c6 will give you better results in the long run after you put some money in to it

Actually, I believe the new '08 coupes will outperform the C5Z's, esp if the coupe has the Z51 pkg. Anyone have actual times/figures on this?

I am thinking about selling my C5 for a C6, but I don't think I will buy an 08 because I would not want to mod a car with a warranty that heavily. I have seen a few TT LS2 C6's and think I may go that direction.
