Here's an article I found on it -Article

About the 700 horspower version, makes since that it might be 700 horsepower by 2010, here is a quote from Lutz-
“We’re certainly not going to be at 600 because some of our competition is at 600. So, 600 is a number that is not satisfactory for us. I would say comfortably in excess of 600 is the way I would term it.” As for 700 horses, “that would be a stretch. Tom Stephens (GM’s head of powertrain) would say, ‘maybe in the second year.’”
One problem with the new Vette their having-
“It’s a very difficult vehicle development. This thing has so much power that we have to explore a dynamic envelope that we’ve never explored before. We want the vehicle to be safe and we want it to be predictable, even at speeds that no mortal is ever going to attain in the United States. That’s our obligation. We’re really into a speed and power realm that General Motors has never been in before. We’re way up there with Porsche Carrera GTs and Ferraris.”
This car would definitely be a steal for anything under a $100k.

I'll believe it when i see it but don't think a 700HP N/A C5 vette offered to the general public is going to happen. Now a C7R is another story!

You have to be kidding right?? Just because it is available doesn't mean every schmuck on the planet will have it. And the price tag, although lower than other supercars, is far from most of our grasp. So why on Earth would the gov have to step in just because a few rich folks can buy a corvette that can now do what other supercars could do? Not like some idiot kid is going to get a test drive in one. C'mon, no one has to die, and no one has to start fear mongering when it isn't necessary. AND PLEASE don't make suggestions to idiots in office who would happily make your wish come true......keep in mind, liberal democrats also want 49%PLUS tax rates!!!!

Bottom Line? If you can pay for it......drive it.

Maybe you could have some added track lesson requirements to buy or something?....that might just be wise.

Well I know porsche is considering making people take driving classes before you get into their upper end cars. This is due to the family of a carrera gt owner that died sueing them over it.

Blah.

GM has nothing to worry about. The vette has all the electronic nannies and all that will happen is that people will turn off traction control and THEN kill themselves when the car goes sideways at 80mph. Basically the same crap that people have been doing in vipers for years. And you dont see anyone bitching about the viper.

Nah, I don't think you'll need the 150 shot.

i don't think it is going to happen. The regular Z06 might jump up to 550 by then, but if you want to me in the high HP club, you will have to step up to the SS version in my opinion

Incorrect ... it (the blue devil, SS, Sting Ray, Z06R, or whatever it ends up being called) is not going to be a 2008 car ... and the rest is very very old news ...

Default how is it possible

How is it possible for GM to crank out CLOSE to 700 hp with out going boosted... A friend of mine and I were talking and wondered on an all motor car how would you pass emissions... What engine size is it going to be to put down close to 650+ hp to say, and stay under the epa limits Im sure with a nasty cam and head work it can be done and then your gonna let the car leave the dealership with a lopey *** cam???

No one On this site more than me would like to see GM do it without boost and shove it right up fords *** but please explain to me HOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO MAKE THOSE NUMBERS ALL MOTOR.....

If someone would like to take the time and explain it to me WITHOUT trying to bash me Id appreciate it...

Can you say aluminum LSX block...(it is soon to come) Lutz also said the motor would be larger than 7 liters..You can get here with more cubic inches..that is always the easiest way to make more horse power..there is no substitue for cubic inches..If they are making 425 (that is what a LS7 really makes) out of a 7 liter motor and they go bigger more HP is not a problem..

Default 700 hp = a6 or 7 transmission

I believe if they want to sell these to the masses they will need to be automatics .
I know the manual guys feel the z06 needs to be a stick
I disagree.

I read somewhere that the engine will have a different hp to torque ratio than what we are used to seeing. It makes alot of sense its really the only way to control that kind of power. TVR does it on there cars high torque peak and long travel throttle.

They are not planing to sell this car to the masses..$100,000 + cars are not designed to be sold to the masses..this is going to be a limited production car if and when it happens...doubt that you will see a auto trans in the car ... but a sequential transmission would be very appropriate for a car with that kind of price

I just read that magazine last night. It says the regular vette is going to stay naturally aspirated and the new zo6( blue devil) will be around a 6.2 with a blower similar to what the supercharged cadillacs run making 700. I know those cadillacs make 469hp with a 4.6 northstar and that blower so i dont think that 700 from a blown 6.2 would be too much of a stretch. The regular vette is going to stay na, not the 2010 zo6. They also said they were playing around with weight in different places to try and put all of the power to the ground.
