Question Is color worth it?

Finishing school and going to work full time by next year, leaving with zero debt and a really great paying job if all pans out. I want a new toy, I have had a 4th gen for the past 7+ years, don't want another F-body. I would like to get a Z06, with the prices for clean ones in the high 20s, its an affordable car. I really like the speed way white 01s. I read the differences, I love that color and wish they made them for the entire Z06 run on the C5s but they didn't. I realize going in by the time the cars paid for it will be close to 10 years old, with a 01 older than that, so in the same position what would you guys do? Say screw and find a different color to like?

I was facing the same dilemma when I was buying mine. I opted for the FRC because I could do whatever I wanted to it without concern about devaluing a $30k car and yet it was rare at the same time. Everything I've done to mine can be undone and it's still worth what I paid for it two years later. It's not a speedway white z06, but you get the picture.

Speedway white z06's are goig to hold their value no matter what you do, because they are so rare.

Happy shopping!

If you like the car, and are comfortable with the price, then that's all that really matters. And, you could always use the 10 years old part as an argument to knock a little off the price. C5s are dropping in price really quick, and sellers know this.

Neil, how much can you afford? Get a new '09 Camaro, don't mess with used stuff. Either that or pick up a used C6.

^^ The sky isn't entirely falling...

If you overlay the prices in Atlanta back in November, and check today's price... you'll see they're the same, and with the spring thaw finally in the nortwest/mideast states.. This month I've seen a willingness of buyers local/out of state to pay more for certain C5's.

C5's will always be worth 60% of the original sticker price unless there's issues. You get what you pay for, and the C5 is such a remarkable machine even with 60k miles that people will drop 20k+ all day long in Atlanta.

Where I live is going to play in to that, gotta budget and see what they actually start me off at. I want some thing around 450-500 a month max far as a payment goes, a newer car would make more sense, its just a tough pill to swallow paying that much on some thing so old.

That's not too bad. And, good to see. Around by me, they aren't holding too high in value. Unless they are the ones overpricing them to begin with. But, I don't plan on selling mine anyways. And, if they go lower, I might pick up a second one.

This is exactly how I feel. For the most part cars not an investment because it will do nothing but lose value. I do it because I like pouring money into it just to have more problems

Remember that even though the prices are getting cheaper they do cost a little more to maintain and then theres always the vette tax

Resale value on Vettes isnt bad so long as their kept clean. Its just I wont be able to pay cash coming out of school, so making the payments on an old car bothers me a bit.

As for what year..Id say late 02 or better then go for lowest milage...the one thiing you have going for yourself is that most vette owners baby their car...generally you get no more than a sprited drive some place..there are others that do take their car out on the track or drag race...Id stay away from thoes

But I know what you mean for color..I wanted a Pewter ZO6......not possiable..luckly my second choice color was Millinium Yellow....I figured if you cant be classy...be loud!

Save up for the new Camaro Neil. You bought the LT1 when LS1s were already out, settled for the "old" thing. Now you are talking about buying a C5 with C6's out. Think of all that time you've busted your *** in college, treat yourself to something current for once. lol

Get the new Camaro, be a pimp.

Yeah Neil, get the first year 5th gen so your first year 4th gen can have a buddy! You can pull the MAF and go SD!

I like the SW White color, and they are rare. Most of the C5s out there are garage queens with no miles anyway. Another idea is to get a white C6 (I'm assuming its an option) and have 75% of a C5 Z06 with some nicer features--however, that's a 5-15k premium.

I say grab whatever you want and enjoy it. There are plenty of guys that buy cars to garage them that make these cars affordable for the rest of us . That said, I don't really consider a $30k car loan as a "reward". The nice thing about the C5s/C6s is that there are people around to help you with the problems that you inherit with a 5-10year old car. If we couldn't fix them ourselves I know I would not be able to afford one.

I don't really like the idea of buying the first year 5th gens. They will be raking in premiums from scum dealerships, and GM is notorious for outdoing themselves after the first year or two of production. Examples:

C6 going from LS2->LS3. GTOs LS1->LS2. C5 Z06s 385->405, etc...

Unlike the ballers, we have to make smarter finacial decisions. The used car has already seen the bulk of its depreciation, where as the Camaro will add market adjustment BS costs to the normal depreciation rate of a 30k car. That said, the camaro will probably be an awesome car.

My best advice is to do what Nineball does: Buy one of each!

Ryan

SD for life, burning chips and rubber son! I'll have to wait and see on this 5th gen, I still like my 4th gen, soon as schools finished I'm going to put some money in to making it nice and leaving the car be. No crazy build, just repaint and suspension/brake work. But looking for some change, a white Z06 would be nice, but like you said gotta be smart with money. With the LT1 cars we were kinda always behind the curve, the LS1 came out and made more power and what not, still like LT1s since my first F-car was one but I would like to mod some thing current. Thats where a lot of it comes from, dont want to be behind the curve any more and want some thing current. White Z06 is what I want, but money wise its hard sell for me. A white C6 wouldnt be bad, cant say I havent gone on Chevrolet.com and priced out a base model C6 with comp gray wheels and the Z51 package. Like some one said, its going to be my money making the note each month, which makes it hard to decide what to do. I see 01s with around 50K for under 25K on e-bay, kinda have to play it by ear and see if they get in to the range I would be comfortable making payments

Get you a C5 z06... i'm on my second. I bought my first one, 2002 with 52K miles for 26,700 and i bought my 2nd yesterday, 2003 24K miles for 27,500 (with warranty till 80K)

If you can get one with warranty, do it.

Great cars, and VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY safe.
