Default C5 Z06 as a DD?

I have been thinking about trading my WS6 in for a 2001-04 z06 Vette, but one of the things that stops me is I daily drive my WS6 in the summer, around 6-8k miles a year, rain or shine. So how does a z06 do as a DD? All the ones I've looked at have around 30k miles, and that's not a lot for an 02 car.

I want to get into road racing a little, I like drag racing and love/want to make my car faster but would all this money be a waste when the Vette is a better car to start off with? I don't owe anything on my WS6 if that helps any.

If I did get a z, I have to stop driving in the rain then lol. What would you guys recommend? Keep my WS6 and mod it to beat Vettes, buy a regular c5, or get a z06? Insurance for all three of these cars are close price wise, so that's not a problem. I've talked to the gf about this and she says she will drive the WS6 and I can drive the Corvette...too bad I can't afford both of them lol.

If I were you I would try and go for the Z06. You're starting off with a car that's almost 500 LBS lighter then your WS6 and already has great power. The suspension is also great for road racing. I chose a C5 over a Ws6 and I'm glad I did. Not saying the WS6 is a bad car because I really do like F-bodies, but you do see where the extra money went

I'll see if I can test drive one today, not sure if they will let me though but I guess it's worth a try!

I daily drive my Z06, rain or shine. We only have the two cars right now, and the Z06 is mine, so it is all I have so that the wife has transport as well.

I look forward to my commute, driving the Z06 always restores my "Permagrin".

You never have to dd your toy. If you can afford 25k-30k for a 'vette, you can afford $500 for a beater. I dd a 1993 nissan pickup with 250k on the odometer.

Not have to, want to. Yeah a cheap beater has crossed my mind, but then again with gas prices going higher I do like the great MPG I get with the "Z"!

I love the feel of a TA. Ive had a zo6 and a plain c5 coupe and just seem to feel a better "fit" in the ta. But, i am into drag racing more than road, and obviously the fbody is a great platform for that. if you want to go towards the twisties id say do the Z, as it is a phenominal handling car which also turns great times in the 1320.

good luck

I was dding my car last year rain or shine for a few months. I didn't "like" doing it as it commuting in it was kind of a waste to me and was almost too low to get where I needed to go. Now I drive it to work when I want to and like this arrangement much better.

I drive my 98 coupe DD. and i enjoy every min of it. I also live in a state where a foot of snow is not hard to come by... and yea.. i drive it in that too. SO as for can a vette be DD.... Yes. Also i'm making about the same power (actually a lil more) to the wheels than a Z06.

Get the vette. C5's are becoming cheap...

Well I test drove one this weekend, but I guess I expected more. Nice car, 02 black z06 with 50k on it but I didn't feel like going $13k into debt again for a car. Plus I felt I would really miss my car. Oh well I really want a c6 anyways, so I guess I'll hold off for another year or so.

I'm ==><== close to sealing the deal on an '01 Zo6 red/black/chrome.

I plan to daily drive it as my only car for the next 4-5 years until I get a new C7.

The Z will be kinda stale when the C7's show up.. but I don't want to pay the bank note on a C6 right now.

Well atleast dont feel bad about not gettin a Z and dont thinkin you have less of a ride than a vette.I could relate a bit on how I was about to trade my 00 vette for an 06 c6 but like you say owing $13 grand is something to think about.keep in mind Thats a bad ride you own their also and that your not worried about not havin trouble gettin the payment in atleaset you can take one less bill of your back.

I guess its all in what you want, not much difference in a c5, and a c6 unless you can't live without the extra features, like heated seats, push button doors, etc, I would find a nice coupe and Mod the **** out of it and that would eat your Z's and C7 when it comes out, but that's me

I'm confused. You don't DD your WS6 in except during the summer? What do you drive during other parts of the year? Why can't you drive your beater when you don't feel like driving the sports car?

My Z06 wasn't my DD initially, then my DD was totalled (guy ran a red light). Its ok for some people, but I don't really go for the idea of a 30k toy and a POS daily driver. With that in mind, I didn't feel like dropping 10-15k on a DD so I decided to start driving the vette. No big deal. I've packed on about 10k miles in 7-8months or so.

The only bad part about driving the vette is parking lots, stray baskets, and inconsiderate bastards that slam doors into you. Other than that its great driving around all the time.
