Default 99 Coupe w/ 99k for $14k... good deal?

I work at a Chevy dealer as a detailer and this past week we had a Corvette collector trade in his black on black 99 Coupe for a C6. Its a 6 speed and has the glass roof, but other than that I dont know the options. Tomorrow I'll find out what it has. The car appears to be in great condition - paint looks almost new and the interior is also in good shape. They also put new factory wheels on it as the guy that traded it in wanted his custom ones back. I had a chance to drive it around the lot and everything felt solid, no weird noises. If I were to get it Id have one of the techs look it over first to make sure nothing was wrong. Any problem areas I should look out for?

My co-worker that handles prepping the trade-ins for the lot said our used car manager said he's planning on whole-saleing the car for 14k, but that if I were interested he'd probably sell it to me instead. So what do you guys think... good deal?

I'm in the biz and 14k is right on the money.... you can find them of course, but you've found the cherry pick of the wholesale lot....

at least from everything you've said, I'd personally buy it, but know how to read the codes (in the yellow/sticky thread at the top of this forum) from the gauge read-out to see what you might be in store for. The guy might have cleared a major code right before he pulled into the lot.

Check for:
Headlight motors
steering column lock
burnt out or faded a/c display
seats rocking back and forth an inch
oil pressure gauge
fuel gauge is stable
engine balancer isn't wobbling with engine running
glass top haze
tire pressure sensors issues
service tcs warnings
plastic endlinks on sway bars wearing if wobbly letting off the throttle
door window regulators
belt tentioner

**plus all the normal stuff that fails over 100k.
water pump
alternator
ac
clutch
auto tranny

If the car is in as good of shape as you're making it sound, the $14K isn't a bad deal at all. These cars are built to last. Sure, you run the risk of higher than average issues cropping up, but that's a trait of the game when buying a higher mileage car.

99K doesn't bother me at all. Most Vette owners are fanatical regarding any maintenence that needs to be done. $14K like said, sounds about right. I'd also look for leaks around the rear diff. if anything and how well it goes into 1st and reverse.

I was able to look it over again and drive it today during my lunch break. It actually had the original window sticker and some of the reciepts for work done to it in the glove box. I had one of my friends in sales(the one that I would be buying it from if I decide to) pull up its history. It had the ignition and steering column lock replaced at 91k miles and the heat/ac system replaced at 81k, as well as other odds and ends throughout its lifetime. Everything seems like its in good shape except for the seat making a whirring noise when you move it forward and back and the biggie... the balancer wobbling some.

Balancer is no biggie. If you're halfway mechanically inclined, you can do that job in a couple hours or so.

Alright, I test drove it again last night after work, although this time was actually on the road. Everything seemed in good working order, and it was quicker than I expected from the brief time on the go peddle. I had one of my friends thats a tech print out its claim history from the dealerships as well as the option codes.

91k miles:
- relay, ignition system replace

90k miles:
-locking parts/rack/sector/lock bolt/actuator rod, steering
- install harness kit

49k miles:
- control, heater and a/c, replace
- perform reprogram and functional test

41k miles:
- PCM reprograming with SPS
- wiring and/or connector - power & grounds distribution - fuse kit

37k miles:
- frame, seat back front driver, replace
- control, heater and a/c, replace
- plater, remote cd, remove and replace
- belt, seatbelt retractor, driverside, replace

26k miles:
- engine oil level sensor, replace

18.5k miles:
- radio, remove and replace
- door and/or pad, console compartment, replace

18k miles:
- front side door window regulator replacement, drivers

7k miles:
- right headlamp bezel, replace
- inspect lap belt retractors, install webbing guides
- ECL relay harness replace

3k miles:
- headlining trim panel replacement
- reciever, remote door/rear compartment lock, replace

Any red flags? The tech said no but I'd feel better knowing what you guys have to say about it.
