Default Corvette splitting off from Chevrolet??

'....splitting Corvette off from Chevy to make it a prestige brand.' That's what is stated in the November issue of Motor Trend as well as a mid-engine Corvette. It's talking about the 2012 C7. But if Corvette did split from Chevy, I hope it stays with GM. What's your thoughts?

An interesting concept. Wonder how much more expensive the car will become and how much its going to cost for aftermarket, what improvements will we get for the extra cost. Will it be like AMG Mercedes ?? AMG products are so overpriced. I still wish I had a Benz to go with my Corvette. One more thing, does anyone think a mid engined Corvette would be an improvement, or why fix something that isn't broke. I personally like the front engine rear wheel drive setup myself. Leave the Mid engine stuff to the Ford GT.

Mid-engine: bad idea
Own Brand: Great idea

It works very well in Europe. Corvettes are usually sold at Cadillac dealers. $50,000 quality service for a $50,000 car. What a novel idea...

It would be nice to be able to take the car to a top-notch Caddy dealership.

Mid engine is good.... for performance... bad for maintenance....

Splitting from GM.... hmmm... doesn't sound good to me.

I prefer the status quo... you know, conservatism.

Our Caddy and Chevy dealer use the same service department.

Motor Trend will print anything just as any auto rag will to sell magazines. Want to make a wager on any of it really happening..

That was only speculation on Motor Trends part. They offered three scenarios for the future considering many things like CAFE requirements etc. They also talked about there being two or three different Corvettes - base model, Z06(both current front engine setup), and a Z07 that would be mid-engined.
I think Motor Trend called it their Corvette Manefesto or something like that. They like to speculate. I just can't see it being a beneficial move at this point. If Zora couldn't convince them to do it back then why would the new bean counters approve it when the current product works so well and has a loyal following?

Mid engine = good.
Split from GM = bad.

If Corvette split from GM, then the price of a Corvette would have to double at least to cover costs that GM handles.

They're not talking about selling Corvette and splitting it from GM. The issue is splitting from CHEVY and becoming its own GM brand. No change in manufacturing plant, ownership, etc. It's already pretty independant, and the engine tech. is already shared among brands. The main impact would simply be where the car is bought.

Same here, that would be a stupid move on GM's part, I hardly think they will sell a brand name thats OVER 50 y/o and STILL making them money.....

Won't happen. Corvette would have no say in splitting and GM wouldn't never allow the seperation. And as far as Mid Engine, that would be the most stupid move GM had ever made.

People calling BS and saying GM don't really understand what's being said/ It isn't leaving the company, it's being it's own GM sub. It would be an equal to chevy rather than a product of chevy, get it? Rather than going to a dealer with a sign that said
Chevy
Buick
GMC
to get a corvette, you would go to a dealer with a sign that said
Chevy
Buick
GMC
Corvette
Make sense? It would be like the mercury in ford lincoln mercury

Except that there are like 5-6 different Mercury's, from sedans to SUVs....
Anyone for a Corvette pickem up truck?
Hows about a 4 door Corvette sedan?

Whether or not they have different models it is still the same situation if it becomes it's own brand. If mercury only made the mariner it would still be mercury wouldn't it?

Not to mention that there was a mention of more than one line. Budget vette through supercar. Regardless of whether they diversify the line or not, they don't have to make sedans trucks etc to be their own brand.
