Default First time at the track on drag radials

Picked up a set of mickey thompson drag radials (275/40/17).

I have yet to run the car on drag radials. Let me first say that holy **** these things hook.

I dumped the clutch at like 4k RPM and it bogged. I made 3 runs. Only completed one pass due to missing third two times.

60- 1.838
330- 4.995
1/8- 7.594 @ 97.64
1/4- 11.63 @ 121.75

I felt like there was a ton of room for improvement. I could easily see myself getting a low 11 n/a and higher mph with some better 60 foot times, and with a little better shifting. I had 100 octane in the tank as I was going to be spraying eventually and did not want to risk melting a plug since I have a stock pump (i do have a fuel pressure safety switch that cuts the nitrous off if there is more then a 4 psi drop in fuel pressure).

I tried to spray the 100 shot my last run and missed third (found fifth doh!). I actually bogged hard that time and cut a 1.88 60 foot. I think the only thing saving that 60 was the spray. Even missing third and aborting my run, i still ran 7.9 at 79mph in the 1/8th lol.

My fuel pump got here so I am going to be putting the big pills in, and be going for mid-high tens the next time out.

All in all, I am glad i got the drag radials, and do not know how i could live without them.

Stock rear end still. No brace. I think im about to purchase it after the way these tires wanted more power.

Its why im a little hesitant about spraying untill 2nd/3rd gear. Tried it this time and didnt care for it.

Stock rear end and trans with MTs:

Just keep some pressure in them to avoid the dead hook and parts won't break. :-)

I ran 18 psi in them.

What are you running in them, and holy crap your car rolled out for headers and nitrous.

Im hoping i can get into the 130 range on the juice. My car seems to MPH better the higher i can launch it.

Interesting stuff!

Glad to see you got some DR's Dave. I wish I had gotten the m/t's vs the Nittos. The Nittos have been GREAT on the street, but didn't help me at all at the track. Only shaved .17 off my 60 time with Nitto DR's vs Michelin ps2 295's

Can't wait to hear that you hit the 10's Dave, GOOD LUCK !!

Im probaly going to have to install a DTE brace before i hit the 10s. I am too worried about breaking the rear end and then tearing up the tranny because of the rear end.

I am going to try and get as close to the 10s as possible with the n/a set up though.

I run the Nittos full time on the street(305/35/18). Once I put my H/C combo on they were useless at the strip. I use the MT street radials(275/40/17) at the track. They were good for .4 sec improvement in et in my case.

Thats good to know your on a stock rear. I was leary of using the MT radials with my stock rear and Dave you have 30ftlb of tq on me. I know its still dancing with the devil on a stock rear but it makes feel a little better anyway, that there are some people that didnt break immediately. What are you guys running for a 17" rim out back, some old stockers from the front?

I cant wait for next season after hearing your results Dave. I only went once this past year and I did poorly. I really let my car down, I know she wanted to do more for me. Next season I am going to with out a doubt run the MT's so that should help make up for some of my poor launching ability. 1.77 is nasty, any vids?

You guys worry to much. I have put 665rwtq to my stocker and ran a best 1.51 and a couple hundred plus sprayed passes, still there. There is a DTE in place and a long shaft though. keep the whell hop at bay and allow a tad bit of spinning and you all will be fine, imo. Dave please submit your fine run to the Z06 Fast List at vetteforum?

I have long tube headers and a 150 shot of nitrous. that's it! (and the mickeys). I even have the stock catback (axle back on a Vette).
