Default MT Radials/Rim choice?

Hey guys next year I want to run some MT radials 275/40/17 but want to know if my factory front wheels are wide enough to use them. I have a 2000 coupe so my fronts are the stock thin spokes. Since I have aftermarket wheels my stockers are just sitting around collecting dust and I would like to put them to good use.

While those 8.5" wide rims are not ideal for a 275x40x17 tire (9-9.5" is best) they will work.
Also consider the slightly taller 265x40x17 BFG DRs, they might fit an 8.5" rim slightly better though ultimately the M/Ts are the stickier tire.

So it should work out then? Ok. Is there anyone doing this or are the people running the 275/40/17 running a ZO6 wheel? After doing a lot of reading I am going to go with the super sticky MT's. I have heard to many mixed reviews about the other brands.

I knew of at least two other people that ran that set up (M/T 275x40 DRs on a 17x8.5 C5 rim) and it worked well. They've since moved up to a CCW drag package to save more weight though.
And I agree, go with the M/Ts if ya can, GREAT tires.

I have a set of 17x11 ZR1 wheels that I have 315/35/17 BFG's on and I cannot get them to work well at all, so I just ordered me a set of 26x11.5x17 M/T E.T. Streets (bias ply) yesterday, can't wait to try them out hopefully there will be no tire spin from now on! I would have went with the radial style but I had them on my cobra and the wheel hope was just as bad as the other drag radials. So I no longer try to run radial tires on the track due to the stiff sidewall!

Excellent, good to know that this will work out. I would love to get the CCW drag pack but that aint going to happen any time soon $$$. I hear what your saying about a stiff side wall on the DR especially in the 275/40/17 size thats not a whole lot of side wall there. But for the power I am making it should work out nice I bet. Thanks for the insight guys

I have MT 275/40/17's on ZR1 17x9.5 rims. When those tires wear out, I am going to try MT 295/45/17's. That will be closer to the same height as stock.

Those are 27.45" tall, stock height for a C5 (non Z06) is 26.66" so it's close but a little taller.

Does anyone have a link to the CCW Drag Pack? Ive heard a lot about it but know very little. Do they have an option that allows you to buy the rims and the wheels?

Here is a link to the typical drag pack you see on vettes, you will have to call them in order to get exact details on what you wont as I do not know about the different styles they offer!
