Default Auto C-5 corvette 12.52/116mph

my friends auto C5 vette has a VR-1 CAI, Borla rear section exhaust, and a 100 wet shot and like the title says it went 12.52/116 mph. it was mid 50* temps out on factory tires with no suspension work or anything.

he has been looking and he's only seen people with a built trans and gears run that time. anyone have any ideas on what caused the car to run as good as it did. i'll try to get the time slip here soon.

also.. over the course of the winter he's lookin to do more mods. can people suggest mods for the winter. nothing TOO extreme, but like basic bolt on's that'll yield the best results. he's already planning on buying a built trans and gears here soon, so becides the trans and rear gear any other mods that would yield good results. im trying to convince him to go heads and cam.

one last thing..

he wants to put DR's or slicks on it to take it to the track, recomended wheel sizes for fronts and rears

its the first time he had taken the car down the track on spray. it has no tuner or anything like that. jus a set of colder plugs and little stuff so it wouldnt detonate on spray

100 wet shot without a tune?

Please tune it before he hurts something, it may work for a while but thats a good way to blow a motor...

the nitrous came from a guy that we know and he's done alot of n2o LS1's and said that the only time that he would absolutly recomend a tuner was for a 150 shot. but for a 100 and lower bottle pressure that it will be fine with a set of colder plugs

i dont know if they pulled any timing at all, i personally wasent there for the install or anything or the setup

Ive tuned more then enough nitrous cars to know that generically saying a 100 shot is "ok" on a given car without tuning is just rediculous, can it work, sure on some cars it may be ok for a while, should you risk blowing your 3-4 thousand dollar engine over 300$ for a tune, NO.

100 shot, factory tune, factory runflats, 12.5 sounds about right.

He needs tires and a tune.

And for God's sake please listen to Eurospec and RUN AWAY from the mechanic who discourages a tune with n20 and offers up bottle pressure and a spark plug change as ample precaution.

dont get me wrong im not ignoring him in anyway. i dont remember what all was done to offer protection to the engine, like i said i wasent there for the install, but the guy who sold the nitrous to us has been using nitrous for years and know's his stuff.

but i talked to the owner of the car last night and recomended that he put a tuner on it soon that way we can do some fuel and ign. timing changes.

but as for tires im pretty sure that's on this winter's agenda along with possibly headers and mid pipe, and possibly suspension and subframe connectors, he also said if he's got some extra money then he'll go for the trans and rear end work this winter also.

thanks guys for the info, i'll post up pics i've taken of the car when i get them here soon, i appreciate the help and i'll be looking forward for more info here soon when we start to mod the car even more.

WOT, RPM window, and fuel pressure switches are useless if the A/F ratio is off. You can still run lean and burn up a piston or run rich and wash out the rings. Anyone with nitrous experience knows that moving a kit from one car to another can produce different A/F ratios even with the same jetting. On a 100hp shot or higher I would have the car tuned not only for the extra power, but for the safety factor as well.

it will probably see a tune next. seeing how the weather is starting to change more towards snow.. the car will probably see the garage then taken apart to start mod's over the course of the winter. we've got a few people that are very capable of tuning. including the guy who sold him the nitrous kit, he tuned many LS1's around the area, one with a built motor with h/c on a healthy dose of nitrous (250 shot iicr). once it goes down for the winter i'll put together pics and a video of all the stuff that goes on with the car over the winter and i'll keep people posted on here.
