Default Help! Someone stole my only set of keys...

Someone stole all my stuff this weekend while I was home in colorado and at the gym including my only set of keys for my z06.....

the only way to get a key cut for your car now is to have it towed to any local Chevrolet dealership and let them take care of it. Im sorry to hear your story because that **** will not be cheap!

you can disable the VATS system and then replace the ignition and just have a generic key. but thats gay

That might work for a Formula buddy but, not for a Corvette

Wrong. This is not the only way.

He can take his insurance and proof of owner ship to the stealership and get his vats number. Then order the key (either from the dealership for lots of $$$ or online) with the correct resistance #. Then call a lock smith, and have them mold a key and then cut using your vat key. I recommend you get two or three keys.

That is correct. I lost one key several ago and wanted it replaced. I first went to a stealership and I could not believe how much they want for a new second key. I did a little research and found they info 2MuchRiceMakesMeSick stated. I got two keys made for less than what a stealership wanted for 1!!!!

If that is the case, you can get the ignition lock replaced. The only ones that I know of that would do that is the stealership and you do not want to know what that would cost.

I'm not really worried about the theives finding it...I'm in the marines and there was no link to any of my addresses in my wallet. I was told by a friend the dealership would probably be about $60.

take proof of ownership and your VIN to the dealership, they can generally cut you a new key based off your VIN

actually that wont work on a formula or a vette, disabling VATS has no affect on the passive key resistor system, you can disable VATS all you want, if they "generic" key does not have the right resistor the car will not start.

All you have to do is call your gm dealer and give them your vin. They can cut the key and you can go pick it up when they have it ready. The key should cost you around 35-50 bux from what I have seen. I did this just the other week because I wanted a spare key made. hth

I pay $25 by using the dealership.... They use the Vin # and cut it right there....

There are 15 different resistor chips... they know and they cut it completely based on vin...

I'm in and out in 10 minutes... I've done this about 4-5 times this year for the company I work for...

They want a recent registration/insurance, and photo ID
