Default C5 Z06

I know the C5 Z06's have 405hp and everything but what lsx engine do they have. I always thought they had the ls1 till a couple weeks ago i was told it was the ls6. The engine covers say 5.7l on them. So is it the ls1 or ls6.
Sorry not to familiar with the vettes, more camaros.

all 01-04 c5 z06's have the ls6 engine in them. They are rated at 405 hp.. 2001 they were rated at 385.. then in 2002 they came with 405. The ls6 engine has a different cam, intake manifold and some other mods

That is most of it unless you have a 97-00 then the blocks are different. In 2001 gm used the new ls6 blocks for both ls1 and ls6 engines.

I thought only a few Ls1 had the Ls6 blocks, which didnt give any power difference

nope all 01 and later should hace the ls6 block and intake. now the block did not add any power, but has windows to allow a better pressure distribution in the crankcase.

Damn it now my brother is laughing at me cuz I previously told him that his '01 SS did not have an Ls6 block only a Ls6 intake. But thanks for the info... I guess we all learn something everyday.

Don't know about the Corvette, but my 02 Trans Am has the LS1 block. My 04 Z06 of course has the LS6 block. You can see the difference at the front of the head on the block on the passenger side. LS1 has a bulls eye. LS6 does not.

You are correct sir! Only some F-cars got them.

That is correct only some 01-02 F-Body cars got the LS6 block. Although all 01+ LS1 Corvettes did get the LS6 block. Our 2002 Camaro SS #10354 (near the end of the run) has an LS6 block.

So both of our cars have LS6 blocks in them, but only the Z06 has an actual LS6 engine (243 heads w/sodium filled valves, LS6 intake, LS6 cam, LS6 Valve springs)...

You are probably thinking of the 1970 LS-6 454 (like in the Chevelles). Recycled RPO codes...

the LS6 is *also* the name of a old big block variant.
But it is not in reference to the particular block in question.

All your answers are mostly here but just to be clear, only some 01 and 02 f-bodies had LS6 blocks, and per this thread, it looks like all 01+ C5's have an LS6 block (any literature with that?). Also, the only way to make an LS1 shortblock into an LS6 shorblock is to melt it down and recast it. As far as stock LS6 H/C, there are better of each out there for the money
