Default 2008 C6 LG Headers & K&N Intake

Not a happy story here like you would think at this point. Dads new car A6.

Baseline on a Mustang dyno

367/363 base

366/361 after headers/intake

The tuner says it might be a bad tank of gas (???) But the stock timing is 24 deg and he's commanding it for 25.5 deg. Its seeing knock and going down to 22 deg. automatically. The car has 1000 miles on it. Just picked up from the museum last weds.

He's going to run the tank out and put in some fresh gas and try it again. This car should hit the 400 mark.

He bought the same headers and intake that LG put on their car. They gained around 35 rwhp. The LG headers are awesome looking and fit perfect.

Something is not right. Great baseline though, on a Mustang dyno.

Did he do any tuning to it? Should not get any knock retard with stock tuning. What was the IAT? Anything above 86* starts pulling timing big time on these cars without tuning. Did he log the tune? Post the log and/or a copy of your tune.

He just might be right about your fuel. Sounds like you might have 87 octane?

Even with a stock tune, headers and an intake should pick up some ponies. With a good tune even more. For the knock, I suspect a tank of 87 octane. If your dad is using 91 or highr octane gas, then it is cleanly the tune.

He always uses premium. This was with the tune (Vector Motorsports). But, everytime he tried to bump the timing, it would show knock and bump it down to 22 degrees. ???

It has to be something with the tune. With those headers and K&N on a stock tune you should have seen about 17-25 on a Mustang Dyno on an A6

argghhh. thats very frustrating sounding man. hopefully its just a fuel issue. but it does sound like maybe something in the tune could be holding it back. maybe GM put something in there to prohibit people from making changes to the tune? also, here's some food for thought. if the gas is bad, why wasnt it bad on the baseline pulls and pulling timing then? hmmm. gotta be something goin on though.

Damn Dennis. We talked about this the other day. I am very disappointed for you and your dad. The numbers DO NOT make sense at all. Has to be bad gas (did big daddy Kane put in 87 by accident?), maybe Kirk is missing something in the tune, and these LS3's are not nearly as easy to tune as LS1's are. I am willing to bet that with a fresh tank of BP Amoco or Mobil 1 93 octane and going back over the tune with Louis from LG Motorsports the missing horsepower will get found.

Its just weird to me that 2 of the best aftermarket companies in Texas LG Motorsports and MTI both tune these cars and get 20+ rwhp from just the tune. Your dad got K&N filter, LG Pro Longtube headers, and a tune and loses power. Get Kirk to call Louis at LG Motorsports, I am sure he'll walk him through it. Here's the number 1 972 429 1963 ask Louis.

Yes, Kirk at Vector. Very good tuner. He was puzzled. We are going to try it with BP gas in a couple weeks. I'll post up the graph on monday.

Here is the dyno video. He is going back in the morning to see if they can get this car right. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Couple things to note... first off I would be weary of BP gas for tuning. It has additives that can cause tuning issues.

2nd thing, if there isn't actually a motor issue then try to run the A/F a bit more rich and see if that helps with the knock. I couldn't get more than 22 degrees without knock on my LS7 unless my A/F was under 12.4. After Fattening it up a bit I got the car to take 28 degrees without knock.

What are you tuning with? If you are using HP tuners, post a log file and I will look and see if I can help any.

After adding LG Long tubes and off road x pipe, ported IM and TB, K&N, and EWP I gained ~60 RWHP after a tune.
