Thanks Dan.

Kind of says a lot for the LS1 engines to be able to take a SC'd beating for that much time with a chunk out of a piston.

Good news, the block is ok to reuse.

I've been busy cleaning/polishing up everything. Has anyone polished up their suspension components using a wire wheel on a drill? It cleans everything up great. I've been working mostly on the parts you can see through the rims but also the aluminum brackets in the engine bay. Has anyone done this as well? It sure is easier to do with everything out! Any advice on a clear coat or something to keep everything in good shape? I figure it'll work good on the suspension parts but wasn't sure about the heat from under the hood on the brackets.

I also just put on the C6 Z06 shocks for another low cost upgrade.

Still having fun.

I had quite a surprise when I pulled the heads off Thursday night. I've got a good size chunk missing from my #5 piston! You can see over an inch of the top ring. It's been making an annoying ticking noise since about 9/06, about a month or 2 after I bought it. It was still under warrantee so I brought it back to get checked out at the dealership and they said it was just the lifters getting tired after supposedly spending 4-5 hours on it. I guess they were pretty far off the mark. I guess they never did a compression test on it.... So I managed to put down 478whp with 7 + pistons. Now I know why I was getting blow by and I'm guessing the lifters are ok. I think the cylinder wall isn't too bad fortunately. I plan on giving the dealership an earfull about it. Not that I think that'll get me anything but who knows.

I'm sure Dan will post up the pics soon.
wow!!! i was going to say those are some low numbers for a maggie on your car, figured you would be around 530 rwhp or so. Glad to hear that the stock Z06 clutch can hold up to some abuse.

The stock clutch was slipping on the dyno so that didn't help the #'s either. The stocker can take a good beating but if I had put on some DR's I think it would've been toast long ago. Last year I took it kind of easy on the car trying to make it last a bit longer.

We'll see if I can hit that 530 #..... my goals are 500 whp, no annoying ticking and no smokey blow by. I think I'll be plenty happy. I had the Maggie rebuilt last winter so that's still fresh.

That's why I am wearing it to work on cars. I would never wear a ls1tech shirt and ruin it working on a car

Turns out the #7 piston had a couple cracks in it between the top and middle ring too. Damn I was lucky....

Picked up the engine yesterday and drove home with it in a snow storm. A friend helped me get it bolted back on the suspension cradle and we've put back on most of the accessories already. I'm hoping to get the car back together Saturday if all goes as planned. Feels like Christmas all over again.

Woo hoo! We've got the powertrain all bolted back in. I've still got plenty of things to finish bolting back in but the hardest parts are complete.
