Default Which has more horsepower potential - LS3 or LS7

Which engine can you get more horsepower out of while keeping the risk of breakage low and without changing any major internal engine components - an LS3 or LS7?

Maybe the LS3 because of the lowert compretion you can run more boost.

But that question is a bit broad, what kina power adders you talking about?

The LS7. It has better ports, better valve angle, better intake manifold, and larger bore for less valve shrouding, lighter rotating assembley and lighter valvetrain, rods and crank are better than ls3. That is just some of the differences...both engines have cast pistons which is a weak point.

n/a ls7 hands down
boosted ls3 I think aps made more power or very similar power with their turbo kit due to the lower compression.

Id say the ls3, the LS7's cylinder walls are much thinner than the ls3's. I think the ls3 has more potential because you can force more boost in it.

For an NA application (which might involve internal changes and wouldn't exactly fit the criteria here...or even just bolt ons) I would think the LS7 would still be better but if going forced induction or nitrous I would think that the LS3 (and LS2) might be better.

For NA or Nitrous the LS7 hands down. The 'nice' thing about nitrous is that it is not affected nearly as much as FI for higher compression. My old 383 was running 12:1 and it loved nitrous For FI, the LS3 is a far better choice.

One thing to keep in mind, the risk of breakage goes up equally with increacing the horsepower above stock.

Since your criteria is " without changing any major internal engine components", I'll take the cubes from the LS7

n/a=LS7 stock
F/I=LS3 stock

I'm sure with a LS7 with a bit lower compression would be great for F/I. Theres no replacement for displacement.
