Default clutch problem

Hey guys. Been busy lately. Finally got the vette back and took it for a tune. Put out 438rwhp and 386rwtq. Lower than what I was expecting but car is just insane fast. Anyways the clutch pedal sticks, only after a high rpm run. Second gear it really doesn't do it but when keeping in it into 3rd gear and go over 5500rpms the clutch pedal will stick to the floor. The clutch stays engaged. I then lift the pedal off the floor with my foot. Pedal comes right back up. I then push it right back down and everything works just fine. The fluid is clear and just put in new fluid. There is no clutch smell whatsoever and the clutch doesn't slip at all. I can normal drive the car and slip the clutch right after this happens and no problems. What do you guys think is causing this??? Possible slave cylinder going bad??? Thanks

This is a notorious problem with the Vettes. It's usually in the hydraulics to my knowledge. A new slave with the drill mod works well. Also, I have heard people taking the OTC (over the center) aka diaphram spring off the back of the clutch assembly. I'm not sure how well it works but I've heard people swear by it.

somebody has mentioned about taking the spring off the back of the clutch pedal. I'm leaning towards the slave going bad. Although wierd it only does that when I am WOT past 5500rpms. I know it did it on the dyno in fourth gear. On the street does it in third. Haven't taken the car WOT in fourth yet.

I had the same problem. It eventually got worse. The hotter it got the lower the rpm at which it occured. I went to remove the spring but it was already broken. Some people have cured the problem by sucking out the bad fluid and replacing with clean fluid. I was bleeding the system with a vacuum pump but still was having a problem. I was told the overcenter condition does not apply to the hydraulic clutch. I replaced the master, slave and clutch. My clutch was toasted complete with a warped wear plate on the flywheel. I believe the heat from slipping the clutch cooked my slave. I got everything from Cartek in NJ.

Anyone have a procedure for bleeding a C5? I found a post about cutting out a hole in the driver footwell, but that was on a camaro. On the vette, the bleeder is too high up on the tunnel.

The only other way is to mity-vac or syringe out the fluid by repeated flushing at the master cylinder.

Unfortunately, your pressue plate can't handle the new power. As soon as my car got off the dyno from install heads and cam, it was acting just as yours is now. On 5500rpms+ high shifts the clutch pedal sticks. I bet when you drive it normally, it drives fine. You can do the flushing of the master, but your clutch is done going overr those rpms unless you get a stronger clutch. Everyone I know that had/has a C5 coupe head and cam, stock clutch is done. For those with Z06's, SOME clutches seem to be holding up. The Z06 had a different clutch than the coupe I guess, or it has something to do with the MN6 vs. MN12. Time to do research on clutches.
