Default Getting a vette

Well the time has finally came, i graduate school in june and i am going to be able to finally afford another corvette.. I used to own an 85 and loved it but sold it cause someone offered the right price and i have been through the cobras and camaros and t/a's and still miss the vette. So my question is, which one would be better suited for me a c5z06 or a C6? I am got a job where i will be going over seas every 3 months for a time frame of 3-18 months at a time and return for 3months so something that will increase in value with the lower miles is a plus. I am not going to be racing it maybe take it to the strip once and road race a few times. So it doesnt need to be a race car. Its going to be a 6spd no matter and i really wanna a removable roof since i am going to be mostly cruising it when i am home, but would be willing to get used to a hard top again with the Z06. So whats the more valuable one with low miles, loves mods, better suspension out of the box? I have read many battles against these two and still undecided cause the both have there ups and downs, but would like some personal experience from the owners who drive them.

If you don't mind a fixed roof then get the Z. It will hold its value better, has better suspension and of course more power as well.

I love the Z's but can't deal with not being able to take the top off and cruise around, being a 23 year old who is about to grad. college as well...taking the top off has its perks, especially when you're single.

niether car will hold its value, so don't buy on that basis.

I'd suggest stretching your budget to a used C6 Z06. Very good from the factory, very little modding needed. You want a car that will run and not need a lot of messing with during the time you have available to drive it.

If you are likely to ship out by September for an extended period of time, I would not buy now. Buy when you return. The 2009s will be on lots and 2006's will be 3 year old cars. It should put it in your reach.

In my opinion the C6 is a better driving experience over the C5Z06. The C6 is more refined and retains the removable top. Once the top is out, it is really nice and open feeling. The LS2 has excellent power and matched with the MZ6, you would have a nice car.

A couple years ago when I was in your exact position, i was dead set on getting a C5 Z06, until I found a modded coupe for alot less. I really didnt like that the Z06 was a "fixed" top. I LOVED having a removeable top cruising! I'd say get the Coupe and spend a little extra for a cam or heads and cam if you're looking for a little more power.

The ultimate car would be a C6 as one said earlier in the thread, that they are more refined, all around a better car (to me). I havent driven a C6Z yet, but i'm in the market to purchase one here as soon as I find the right color.

I cant wait to have the power i had in my modded C5 in a stock car, in the C6 body.. C6's are sooooo sweet!
