True, that's why he's pretty smart in seeking 16s instead of 17s. A 16" ET Street (bias ply) will outperform the 17" version providing the rim width is ideal.
Drag radials still have their place as well of course.

I came in to post the reply above the the statement above.
I go drag racing a lot with friends and have picked up a lot of tips from them, but I've never owned a Vette. Hence this question.
