Default 2008 Corvette convertible

Rented a new red vert. with every option available for four days of blasting around the mountain roads of Sedona and Route 66 . Smooth ride - too much lag between the time you stomp the gas pedal and the electronics tell the throttle/body to open wide - transmission shifts way too slow - lots & lots of slippage between gears - hard to tell difference between competition mode & touring mode - horn sounded like **** - battery almost went dead over night but still had just enough juice to let me into the damn thing but wouldn't crank or let me out . 108 degree's in Phoenix & being locked in a hot *** & cramped convertible is no fun , let me tell you !!! And to top everything else off , I really believe my 02 Camaro would at the very LEAST run heads up , probably till about 90 or 100 MPH . Our Vette only had a little over 5000 miles on it & cost $200.00 a day plus mileage & insurance . We put about 550 HARD miles on it in 4-days . Never got over 125 MPH . NO THANKS ! I'll keep my Z/28 convertible . Got lots more room & just as fast ( up to 100 ) .

Default Rental

Remeber it is a rental and the rental company probably de-tuned it to avoid people driving it like it was a rental.

For sixty two grand it oughta have a hell of a horn , trimmed in gold . Damn thing sounded like a single horn with a sore throat ! And if it can't even take 5000 miles of being driven hard , what will it be like in 50,000 miles ? I was VERY disappointed . After all the hype I guess I just expected more . $62,000.00 don't buy you much anymore .
Its kinda like spending fifty three grand back in 2003 & havin to drive around in a new Vette with a piston slap so loud it sounded like a rod knockin .

To each his own, I guess. I had my Trans Am for 5 years. I've owned two Vettes since (still have the C6), and the Trans Am couldn't hold a candle to either one of them. Granted, one was a C5 Z06 and my C6 is a Z51 coupe. The vert is heavier to be sure, but that's sad you had such a bad experience. God willing, I'll have a Vette in my garage now until the day I die. I don't miss the Trans Am at all except for the fact that it was much easier on the wallet.

If you never got it over 125, that was your fault. I drive much faster than that quite often (as safely as possible), and it's very smooth and very fun. Now if you could not get it over 125, then it was significantly de-tuned and/or speed limited. These cars are very fast.

My Z06 did not have piston slap. My truck did, but not until it hit around 55K miles, but a can of GM top-end cleaner took care of it.

Question

I'm surprised, my C6 has always been FLAWLESSLY reliable and fast.

Very often rental cars have had ONLY low octane/regular fuel passed through them, that will take it's toll on a car really meant to have premium/93 octane in it.

LOL at this thread.....

Yeah, keep your Camaro.... what the hell did you rent a "cramped convertible" for if you wanted more room?

I don't know what mods you have to your car, but if you are stock an LS3 vert would destroy your Z.

Torque management is still pretty nasty in the 2008s, but they are still pretty fast when they have 93 octane. If you were in the mountains, hopefully you are not comparing that experience to what your Z28 does at much lower altitude.

Honestly I've heard the '08 C6's are as quick/maybe quicker than the C5Z's and I can tell you one thing's for sure is that my C5Z feels quicker than my 427 RWHP T/A...something was wrong with your rental or you're driving around a 500RWHP camaro.

You're right ! When we came down off the high altitude mountains I noticed a definite horse power increase . Plus when we picked up the car Avis had filled it with 87 octane so by the time we got a tank of 91 octane it WAS starting to feel a lot better . Can't believe 91 octane was the highest premium they have out west . With 93 it might have flown , that's probably why my Camaro felt as fast or faster than the Vette . Down here in the Bayou country with 93 octane I'm sure it wouldn't have been a race . Still that throttle lag sucks big time . And what ever you new Vette owners do , DON"T let that battery die on you . Get a 1000 cold cranking amp extra heavy duty battery just to make sure .

You're not going to notice much difference b/w 91 and 93 octane.
