Default Questions about C5's

I think I want to sell my TA to upgrade to a 2000-2001 C5 yellow vert soon. I never owned a vette before and wonder what people think about the vert's?
Are they Faster than the new Mustang GT's or Cobras I think so but a buddy says no? Aren't the C5's about 345 hp and lighter?
Also, what is the small black vent on side of them do? Some models I see have them and some don't and is this a extra feature I should get? This is right before the back tire. Any other features or upgrades that aren't standard on C5's I should look for or should get? I want a yellow C5 vert for my first choice.
I like this one and may go for it?

Thanks for any advice you might have?

2001 vettes had 350hp and 375 tq lbs-ft (360tq if auto)...2000 and below had 345hp and 350tq lbs-ft.....yes any LS1-LS6 corvette you buy is gonna be lighter than any V8 mustang ford has to offer....that "side piece" you speak of would be brake ducts(vents). They are only offered (from the factory) 01-04 ZO6's...if by chance you have seen them on an FRC or vert or even a standard coupe, sombody has either bought the fake stick ons...or gone through the hard labor and cut the panels themselves....the ducts allow outside air to vent the brakes...this allows quick and smoother stopping....plus it looks cool....as far as "features" goes...a vette damn near comes the way u want it...C5 coupes have a tire monitoring system that the ZO6 does not....there is also a Z51 package for coupes if you want better handling than your "Standard" vette...01 and up has the second gen trac/stabilty control. 03 and newer got heated mirrors, magnetic ride control...and i believe all came with dual climate air control from this year on....offered on the coupe and vert...this is just a light touch on what this vehicle has to offer...hope this helps

The vent that you see is the air duct to the rear brakes on a Z06 some people put it on a coup or a convertible...the Vette is lighter than your T/A and handles better than the F body...if you drive one you will probably want one..

yeah take one for a spin once lol they will stomp about any Mustang GT(minus heavily modded ones) and will hang w/ the last Gen Cobra's if they are slightly modded. The Shelby GT500's is a different story. Now get a c6 Z06 and they will stomp all the mustangs. I'd say go drive one before you bid on ebay for one but i'd guess you still end up with one

Wow, Thanks for the information, I just started looking at them and got the wife's approval to buy one. I'll go drive on in a few days. I love the look of the coupes but like the vert's for cruising. My neighbor has a Mach 1 and that's all I hear is how fast his is, hee. I'm 44 and ready for a upgrade.
I guess more people prefer the standard over the automatic?

Here's a C5 with the black duct on it so you think its not a Z06 and this has been stuck on to look like a Z06? I know the price will tell you its not but is there anything else on this car that's not stock? Thanks

wow, judging by the pics, this car has been hella taken care of...i would test drive it....but by the pics, it is in really good condition...the chrome C6's look good on it too.....uh even though some of the pics has one of the ducts in it, i cant tell...youll know if there real by getting down and looking to see if there actually is a duct running back to the discs themselves....i also checked the price and it actually is a little under the blue book value(atleast 2g's)....and i figure its location might be the reason why...bowling green is where all our dreams are made...the vert top is in great condition...and somone even painted the calipers yellow...very clean...if u drive it i know ur gonna fall in love w/ it.....ask me how i know

I'm liking the corvette in my first post better I like the mods he's done and fill its a better deal, just farther from my house to see it. I like the standard but Automatic would be better for where I live but standard would be more fun to drive I guess?

what mods?...the appearance stuff?...man if that guy spent $2500-$3000 on that...he is a fool...those are nothing more than overlays and door/handle accents...it does look okay...if ur into that kinda stuff...and as far as the motor trim appearance....if u dont ever plan on goin to alot of car shows...theres no point in havin it.....that **** is hard to keep clean...plus is 4g's more really worth 3500 miles...to each their own.....now the good thing about it is it still has a warranty with it.....its really all up to you...what youll be comfortable driving in..and claiming what is yours....and shifting these cars is a breeze(to me any ways im 23yo) but if dont like bangin gears than go with the auto.....when it all comes down to it...its a CORVETTE...drive n be happy

Sounds good, so 2001 is a good step up from 2000?

I guess you may just have to show him, how "quick" his mustang is....
