Default Z06 or 911, Question from a 50 year old

Looking to purchase my last personal car (or TOY). I want something fun to drive, speedy but also somewhat sofisticated. I have had all types pf cars from family sedans, race cars (old road course guy) to econo boxes. I currently have an '04 GTO (heavily modded) and an F250 which is daily driver.

I'm currently eyeing the Corvette Z06, Porsche 911, BMW Z4 M and Merc C63 AMG. The Z06 and 911 are probably the top. I love both cars for different reasons.

I am definetly not a Buick kind of guy, I would have to shoot myself brfore that ever happened.

What do you Corvette folks like best and the least about your cars? and what experience have you had with the other brands?

Stan

The current model Z06 and the 911 are different animals. The Corvette performs about as well as a Ferrari F430, while the 911. . .doesn't. The guy in the following youtube video HATES America cars, and Corvettes are no exception, but listen to what he has to say about it's performance:

Have you ever driven a rear engine car like the 911? I suggest driving one (and suggest taking through some turns) before making any decision.

Your last car,, come on you're only 50. Well if I were buying my 'last' car it would be a Porsche Cayman I've had a C5 for a few years now although it's a great sports car, it's time for a change. My vette is currently for sale if it goes well maybe I'll pick up a Porsche Boxter to get the feel of a Porsche. Lots of deals on mint condition used ones. 2nd pick would be a BMW M3

Look at the '09 CTS-V, no pricing release as of today, but should be mid $60K----a helluva lot nicer than the C63, set the record for a sedan at 'The Ring'. Power, 556HP/551TQ is more than E63, C63, M5 or any other four-door out there, http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/09/2...56-horsepower/.
Then again, if four doors ain't your thing (you did mention C63), get the C6Z, put a TT kit on it, boost at 7psi, and own the road and the track!

I work for benz and the c63 is a really nice car. IMO not even in the same world as a z06.
We are talking about the cheapest model benz that they threw a big motor in. I dont think you will get anything near the enjoyment out of a c63 compared to a z06. A

Also why is this your last car?

I shouldn't really say my last car, as I will always be buying something. I just want to buy something that I can keep stock (a first for me) and enjoy for a long time. I have 5 vehicles now and probably will have at least three at all times.

Hard to explain, I want something special that I can be proud of, yet put a big *** grin on the face at any time.

Depends on the amount of money you can spend, and if you want used. I'd take a porsche turbo over the vette, but only if that's in your budget. And if you are ok with used, a 993 turbo IMO is the best looking porsche.

When it comes to refinement, amenities, etc.. I would feel that the 911 would be over the z06. It should since you're dropping more for the 911 than the z06.

But, and from owning a z06, your not going to find a car that performs like a z06 for the price. Even the GTR, which has a similar price bracket, doesn't compare. The c6 z06 is really that nasty.

However, I also drive mine everyday, allday. Its my DD. It's very comfortable for what it is and drives very smooth. It's fast enough in factory trim and well, even with that, I would still mod it. Simple stuff.. mats, TIRES FOR SURE!, and eh.... well, lethal Z cam/headers for sure!

I've had several Porsches though not a recent 911 variant. I currently have an '06 Z06 - got it about five months back.

I'd have gotten a 996 'Vert but, given where I live, there's no way I could justify it considering the closest dealer is in Portland (240 miles). My buddy has a TT Cayenne and every service/problem requires he trailer it there. No thanks.

The 'Vette is fast as hell and corners like nothing I've ever driven but you just can't beat German solidity. I blasted a 996 Turbo on my way home from buying the Z (lonely Eastern WA freeway) but I'd have switched him rides in a second.

Given where you live (I just moved from Mill Creek), I'd say get the Porsche. I know I would.
