I was thinking about running a 5.3 because they are super cheap but I tried to search to see if it would be a slug and didnt come up with anything. I would be running a carb and cam pretty much. does any one race with this engine???And if you do what are you running for times?

This might help you. Hot Rod ran low 12's with one in a Chevelle. It was carbed. The 5.3 is 323 cu in they call it a 327 though.

Have a buddy with a 5.3, mild cam, headers, 750 carb, TH 350, 3500 stall in an 81 vette w/ 3.2X gears ran consistent 12.2 @ 110

the engine will only be as fast as you know how to make it.

i don't see why it couldn't be within a few tenths of an ls1.
