For those shifting manually don't grab the shifter at all. Place your hand palm down on the console behind the stick and use the web between the thumb and forefinger...simply rotate your hand for each shift.

You will knock off at least 2 tenths shifting lower...buzzing the stock engine kills et.

Best bang for the buck would be 3.73 gear and good tires.

That's weird. My best was my second run and I accidentally tagged rev limiter in second lol. Next time I go i'll have to try shifting at 5k and shifting higher.

Even with the dry N2o I was short shifting to a 11.66. I'm a proponent of leaving these cars as factory as possible and still being capable of running 13 flat et's...that's plenty fast for a daily driver.

I can't say shif5ing at 5k is gonna net any kinda good results with the ls1 making peak power in the 5400-5600 rpm area. I will say the tach is slow in these cars and you should anticipate your shift points

^^^^^^^^^^oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh snap!!!

So watcha been up to for the past 16 years?

Agree with the possibility that shifting at 5 grand on the factory tach isn't really shifting at 5 grand but may be the best place to shift. And if it is actually 5 grand in reality then my factory rev limiter kicks in at 5,200 rpm in first.

That particular car did have a Hypertech tuner and a aftermarket tach eventually. The point was shifting at 5K netted shifts below 5500rpm if you paid attention. It took a few outings to figure out what it really wanted and short shifting really brought the et's down more so than any bolt-on.

True......but bracket racing trophies is not the way to prove it. Tell me how the et/mph changed. Actual differences.

So are you shifting at 5k or 5500.

5500 i could mostly agree with anything over that being a marginal gain on a stock car. 5000 you're leaving some on the table for sure with a engine that makes peak power in the 5400-5600 range. I am talking actual rpm here and not necessarily what the tach shows.

A 5000rpm shift point would drop you back to 3350 rpm in 2nd gear .....3650 in 3rd.....3850 in 4th. I can't say that's the sweet spot for any of those.

Could you explain?

Well for starters my experience with a hypertech will slow you about .2

Second....5000 rpm shift points are 5000 rpm shift points.......not 5500. Not even before 5500 is a good term because that's a wide margin.......you could say just past 4999 rpm tho.

Watch this stock 6 speed run a 11.1 (There is something to short shifting). Of course gears and a built 9 in will let you leave harder (than your 10 bolt). Weight reduction does wonders as well!
