So, yeah, you would be low 11's in some neg DA.
I'm not hear to argue (I am an auto guy anyway). Just saying to the OP it is worth experimenting with. Magnet is my bud and he has!

Nothing wrong with experimenting. Just shifting before you even hit peak power seems silly.

I have a pic of my dyno. Keep in mind my car is stock besides a lid, headers and true duals. The only benefit I can see to short shifting is more torque. Can you give me some insight as to why it will give me better times?

Guys - My '99 was a truly stock piece including the torque converter. Short shifting was good for a solid two tenths reduction in et...I tend to trust the et slips more than hearsay or theory's.

I'm not saying I don't trust you or anything I'm just looking for an explanation as to why it works. I intend to try it when I go to the strip this Friday and I will report back.

What times were you running handover? Miles on car? Mods? Details please

Keep in mind this was during the 1999 NMCA season. The only mods at the time were a Transgo shift kit, Hypertech tuner, 4.10 gear and M/T DOT tires. Best I can recall it ran a 12.78 in decent air.

Well boys, I'm back with results from my first quarter mile runs. First run and best run was a very surprising 13.275 @ 107.27! I couldn't repeat it after that but I still had a lot of fun. I was able to get 13 runs in with a handful of them against my friends 5th gen. I'm making a compilation of the videos I have and will post eventually.

Thank you. Engine mods are Tsp headers, duals, lid, no tune. Suspension mods include BMR lowering springs, koni strt, umi shock tower brace, 3 point SFC, panhard bar, LCAs, and relocation bracket.

Sorry handoverfist! I tried short shifting at about 5500 but it didn't seem to have an effect on my et's. It may have been just my bad driving so I havent given up on your technique just yet. I want to try experimenting a bit more next time I go. Looking at my dyno there would be a definite torque advantage from shifting before 6k.

Try 5K...given driver reaction and the state of the transmission it will likely be 5500 or above.

Nice job improving your time. My bet is with some practice there is more left in it. I went 12.6@112.8 with similar mods. I had shiity mac hwaders and stock catback tho.

I think with some practice on launching I could do better, I was launching from a relatively safe rpm range and slipping the clutch.

I think so to. Some prectice and your there. The oe clutch won't take much rpm. I think i had a spec in mine then with a aluminum flywheel.....been a long time now. But i was on stock gear and tune.

I can say shifting at 5k will more then likely mean a actual shift of 5500-5700

My shifts are commanded at 6k ( bracket racer here) tach shows 6500-6700..
